I just thought I’d share some perspective from a dressmaker. Here at Prodigy we design to a budget based on customer requests and inspiration they share with us. Yes everything has gone up considerably from freight to crystals, to staff wages, fabrics, etc. but we still offer dresses starting from $2100/2200 plus crystals. These packages start from $400-500. When you hear ‘expect to pay $4000’ yes, that seems close now to the average price for a high end championship style dress loaded with crystals. Please know this price/budget is what our customers actually ask for time and time again and it’s our customers that have dictated our crystal packages going higher and higher. A challenge we face as an Aussie dressmaker is being sent costumes we know have sold for $5-6000 dollars (which is outrageous but that’s now what using Swarovski costs) as inspiration for a new dress, but with a budget of $3000 desired. We do our very best every day to achieve the intricate and heavy bling designs with a much smaller budget. Add customs and overseas shipping/insurance to a $5-6000 dress and it absolutely prices most people out of the market. We are currently working on our schedule to see if it allows for production of some very affordable classic design ‘off the rack’ dresses in our off season. Stay tuned of contact us if that’s something you might be interested in. Regards Kerrie
