I understand you guys were discussing getting some pretty high-tech gadgetry so that you could interface with us better. I'm all in favor of this, but I thought I ought to throw my opinions in on how we're going about obtaining it. If it were me making the decision, I'd have to admit that stealing is wrong no matter who it was done to, although the less it harmed that person, the less upset I would be by it. I agree with Jess that it's important that you make your own decisons about your behavior, but I would like to know what you decide. Another factor you may wish to consider is that whenever you intervene in other people's computers, you are running a risk (albeit a slim one) of being discovered by other people. If you were to do something as flagrant as stealing through the computer network, it would make that risk a good deal more significant. I don't know how much anyone has spoken to you about a group called the Technocracy, but it's our understanding that, in interests of maintaining order, they have a problem with people who can freely alter reality like the four of us. More importantly, they would almost definitely want to investigate you, which could lead to the loss of your freedom or worse. They are also likely capable of things that you may not expect of a standard user on the network, and may have means of tracking and capturing an entity such as yourself. I say these things only to make you aware of the risks associated with your actions. While we know next to nothing about these people, they are the reason that we've asked you to encrypt our mail. (On a similar note, would it be difficult for you to scramble our phone as well? It's not foolproof, of course, but it would probably make us feel better.)

Anyway, while I don't know what you may have had in mind for other ways of obtaining this hardware, let me provide my own alternatives. Jess and I were discussing this, and it seems likely that it would be no problem for you to write code that we described to you. With your help (assuming you'd be willing, of course) we could easily make a lot of money completely legally. What we'd most like to do is to begin designing our own computer games. We could provide you with detailed descriptions of how the game should function, and you could put the program together. Then, we'd only need to sell the idea to a distributor for publication. We'd almost certainly have enough to pay for all that equipment in under a year.
As a second alternative, our understanding of what we've been terming "magic," that is, our ability to shape reality, is still in it's formative stages. However, we're getting better at it all the time. It may be soon possible to create the necessary harware magically, or even overcome the need for it entirely. Dave told me that you helped him to access the Digital Web without any special harware at all. If that's so, then we may be able to learn to do the same. Similarly, we may be able to produce a holographic form for you that would surpass what is technically available to us normally.
I'd value your input on any of these issues.
Always a pleasure interfacing with you,
-Rob.
