It was very rarely that she was surprised at anything, much less enough so to show it. Arcane was smiling, seemingly amused that she had let down her front of invulnerability for a moment. Had he truly avenged her father? “You knew Esceles?” she choked, though obviously he had already answered that question. Fifi seemed just as shocked. “You workfor the king?” she asked, upset. She had hoped he would live long enough to maybe raise a family. Ava was still slowly processing this piece of information as they ate. He worked for the royal kingdom. Unless he was lying, this meant he must wear the mark. Halfway through the meal, he again inquired as to her line of work. Fifi became stiff at her side; she rather disapproved of killing for money. “I am a bounty hunter,” Ava replied, taking another bite nonchalantly, “of sentient beings. If there is a traitor among the royals, they usually hire me so as not to cause more troubles with those who oppose the mark.
