Subject: Any suggestions?

You'd think from the message here that I've lost a child, but I guess I'm only grieving because I'm so passionate about this subject.

A few days ago, two of my daughters were watching a drama on the television. There was a courtroom scene where the woman on trial was from Czechoslovakia. She made a statement that communism was the most perfect government.

My elder daughter, who recently returned from a five month stay in Moscow replied, "she's got that right!" I was a bit stunned and asked her if she was serious, to which she said that she was, that communism, if practiced correctly, was the best form of government known to man. I asked her if she's ever read any statements from the modern day prophets about communism and she said, very flippantly, "I guess not!" I'm convinced that she is convinced that it is so.

She's a very obedient child and has never given us any grief or concern except that she does have problems with procrastination and motivation. Otherwise, she's about as good as we could ever ask for. She's faithful in church, always stands up for righteous principles, and is never afriad to share her beliefs about the Church with anyone. She recenlty took a job at Denny's and made it clear from the onset of her interviews that Sunday work was never an option. They hired her, anyway. She is very principled. Sometimes to the point of self-righteosness, but I think most of us have been there at one time or another, so I'm not worried about that. Life's lessons humble all of us.

What I'm saying is that she is well grounded, but has this idea about communism that scares me. She does have a stubborn side, and I know that if I try to preach to her about it, it will only push her further in that direction. She is at the age where she is open to learning, as long as it's not from her parents. If her institute teacher or school teacher or the bishop from her singles ward were to guide her, she'd listen. Coming from her mother or me, probably not.

Any thougths on how I might reach her? Or am I worried about nothing?

Jay
