 If you're not opposed to it, I would suggest using some piddle pads. If you have a garage area you can put one or two down in the garage, put a big rock or something for him to "aim" at on it, and let him go there. You may have to soak up some of his pee the first time and let him smell it so he gets the idea.

You are right, it is not good for them to hold their urine that long, it's hard on their bladder and can cause problems later.
