Subject: HB70, Nitro's Law

Many of you remember the story of Nitro, the Rottie that lost his life from starvation at a public boarding/training center in late 2008 in Youngstown, Ohio. There were 19 dogs that were starved. Eight of them were found dead, including Nitro. For background information, visit NitroFoundation . Click the link to the first video on the home page as it will tell the whole story. Steve Croley received 4 months in jail and 3 years of probation for his actions. In less than 1-1/2 years he will be allowed to purchase, own and train dogs again.

HB70, known as Nitro's Law, was introduced to change the laws in Ohio to make animal abuse a felony instead of a misdemeanor. HB70 passed in the House, and now it is waiting to be heard in the Senate before being passed into law. Unfortunately, we only have less than 60 days to get this bill heard in the Senate. I urge everyone to call or write to Senator Tim Grendell and let him know that you wish him to advance HB70 to the Senate before the end of the year. If this doesn't get heard in the Senate within 2 months, this law will be dead.

This is an excerpt from the Nitro Foundation's Facebook page posted today:

"Please just make this 1 phone call today - it's so important for the animals! Call Chairman Tim Grendell Phone: (614) 644-7718 or Email: SD18@senate.state.oh.us of the Senate Judiciary Criminal Justice Committee. Chairman Grendell is able to decide whether Nitro’s Law HB70 will advance. If the bill doesn't get to the floor for a vote by the end of the year, IT DIES AND NOTHING CHANGES FOR THE ANIMALS."

I called Senator Grendell's office today, and I also wrote him an e-mail. I urge everyone to do the same.

Contact Information for Senator Tim Grendell:
(614) 644-7718 or Email: SD18@senate.state.oh.us

Thank you for your help with getting this important law changed.
