"Im sorry to hear that," Traveller said sombrely. "I wont pretend that I can relate to it; I've lost neither mate nor cubs. Up until recently I was happy to be solitary. But I can imagine the horror of losing someone. Especially your son. Cubs shouldnt die before their parents. No fox deserves that."
The impact of his own words hit Traveller. The earlier words of Branberry urging him to leave, the words of this wise Rocket. No cub should die before its parent. Branberry had wanted to help her son. Rocket had returned to prevent any other fox from suffering what he had suffered. 'After all,' Traveller said softly to himself, 'everybody is somebodys cub.'
The red male felt hypocrytical. Just minutes ago, he was all for killing the blues. And now he was sympathysing with some elderly fox who had lost loved ones. He struggled internaly, not knowing what to do. How could he say what he meant? Instead, he continued talking to Rocket. "Where is your daughter now?"
