Haven't heard anything stewing lately about the fall reunion.

Who is planning on coming?

Will there be an organized practice for those bringing instruments? Because some of yall surrrrrrre need it...heh heh.

Where will the Sat. function be held?

Just wondering. I would sure like to attend but I'm not sure if I can make it this time. How can the last one be topped? It was GREAT!!!!

I'll be coming to the reunion, but due to a non-compete clause and a court order, I will not be playing my clarinet.

Most people need to know that this game WILL NOT be played at the traditional Northside Stadium--the game WILL be played at the new Northside Stadium named Farris Field, located on 1604, east of Bandera and west of Hausmann Road. THis stadium is scheduled to open in early September, but the last time I drove by the construction, the stadium didn't appear close to completion.

I'll be there, still suffering from jet lag, but officially a Texas resident again. If I also have a place to live, then the party is at my house!

I haven't had a chance to practice, so Randy, you'd better be there. The more drummers, the merrier. (And that's probably not the first time that phrase has been used!)

Well, y'all have heard this before... but it looks like that weekend is open and Cathy and I should be there. Our son, recently accepted into the Baylor University Golden Wave Band, will still have my former alto sax. Therefore, I will be Diego's accompanist. Maybe we can sing instead?

The terms of the court order would also prohibit my singing, since that could be considered intentional infliction of emotional distress, and inflicting cruel and unusual punishment upon human beings. Nonetheless, I will be present at the game, and at any pre-game or post-game festivities.

Great!! Speaking on behalf of the other woodwind players, we'd enjoy the opportunity to hit the hi hat, and show you drummers how's it done...

For those who don't have their instruments anymore (or at least claim not to), howzabout maroon kazoos with a white ramshead logo? Simple, portable, and ever so stylish, they'd also eliminate the need for any last-minute dash to the pawn shop and/or late-night practice sessions. And just think how moving the Fight Song would sound when played by Cowbells-N-Kazoos.

What a great idea! Gets me off the hook, too (no instrument, no time to practice, etc.).

Let's do it!

Since I will be handicapped due to hand surgery, count me in on the kazoos, too! (Yeah, I know, some people go to great lengths to have an excuse for not dusting off the ol' instrument! But I see no reason for torturing the ears of innocent bystanders!)

God, I hope I'm not the only one bringing a horn....no, wait...solo...yeah, I like that...
I will be there with horn(one passed on to me by Jon Sanders, which was Harold Harvey's "practice/marching" horn so 1st from '75 and '76 will be represented)
My chops are good, and I look forward to screaming the fight song...

I just received an email from Mark telling me that the reunion was cancelled, due to not meeting the minimum required....

I'm not totally surprised. Some of the former band members I spoke to said they probably wouldn't attend since we just had our reunion this past summer.

The biggest logistical question in my mind was how the Alumni Band was going to play at the game? Why would the current Marshall administration allow a bunch of alums--many of whom don't contribute donations or tax dollars to the school--to upstage the current Marshall Ram Band (which incidentally, is pretty good). If a football game is ever planned as part of an Alum reunion, I would simply suggest that we attend the game as spectators, and have fun. We had our moment in the sun, and it was an outstanding moment. Let the current Ram Band members have their moment, and let's share in making it special for the current Ram Band.

The reason colleges like to encourage alumni bands to return to the college campuses and march: money. The majority of former band members contribute significant funds to either the University or the University's music programs. NISD and Marshall aren't set up for this like the colleges.

In the future, I would vote to simply having the type of get together we recently had (happy hour, picnic, evening social), and leaving it at that.
Them's my thoughts....

One other thing here....this is the Homecoming game. If I'm not mistaken, homecoming is for the alumni

Diego is right on target with his comments. Why don't we all meet at the game, then adjourn to the parking lot like we used to (allegedly) or meet at a restaurant or Flores? Certainly y'all can remember doing this a few years back? Shakey's ring a bell? We're not that old as to not remember how to have an impromptu party.....

Ok...here's the deal...I spoke with the current band director at Marshall, Rey Meza, and he is all for "a bunch of old alumni" sitting and if they so choose, playing with the band. He said, as a matter of fact, he would like to do this on an annual basis. He said that he , and the kids , would really enjoy having us. Mark and I spoke, and we will still do the reunion at Homecoming. Everyone will buy their own general admission ticket, but we will sit with the band. Rey asks that we be at the new stadium no later than 7pm. to meet up with them. I know there are a lot of you out there that don't play anymore, or for some reason don't want to play. I offer ths...it will be fun, and think about those kids in the band...I can't imagine they would be anything but thrilled.

I am SO glad SOMETHING is happening. I wasn't able to attend the last reunion but we've already got our plane tickets for at least the Friday night event this time. THEN I got the "cancelled" email!

Now, at least some are gathering. Great news for me!

About this "march with the current band" discussion, I have an opinion. When I was in the band as a teenager, I would have been very interested in seeing a bunch of "40 something" people marching along the sidelines...but it would have NOTHING to do with "RAM PRIDE!" It would just be something fun to watch, probably make fun of and wonder "WHAT are they thinking??!"

I'm not saying I won't do it - it's just very unlikely. Then again, I live far enough away now. Maybe I'll try it.

For me, the main thing is just to see ANY of you who are able to be there. I have wonderful memories of times with all of you. I hope we can contact plenty of band friends and encourage attendance.

KUDOS TO MIKE & MARK!!! Being a highschool yearbook adviser, I KNOW how frustrating it can be when deadlines aren't met by students! (And then they still want you to accomodate them!) My hat's off to you guys - thanks! I can't wait to see everyone! And Mark, how kind of you to offer your place.
As far as marching in/sitting with the current band, I'm game for whatever the alumni want to do. I will, however, probably have my mom & stepdad with me, so I need to figure out that arrangement.
Would there be any chance of visiting Marshall during the day & possibly observing the homecoming festivities at school? (Our school just finished having their homecoming. It could be fun for me to compare notes.)
See y'all soon!
