Date Posted: Sat, Aug 29 2009, 17:58:13 In reply to: Charlie Bridges 's message, "Amenity Area Control" on Sat, Aug 29 2009, 10:21:18 Thank you Charlie for helping me. Now I don't have to go count the portable hoops. Charlie has pointed out that there are a lot of kids that play basketball in this community and the 133 just counts those with portable goals in the driveway. The court at the common area serves to supplement the goals in the driveways. Most basketball goals in the driveway do not have a backboard that is very stable or rigid. Try shooting a bankshot on a portable goal. Also, try working on layups, watch out for that pole!! The hoops at the common area allow the kids to work on these skills individually. The court at the common area not only allows the kids to work on their skills individually but it also gives them a chance to work on some team skills that would be difficult if not impossible to work on in the driveway, such as the transition game. That is the transitioning from offense to defense and vice versa. If any of you have coached basketball you would know that this is a very important part of the game. The running up and down the court also provides more exercise than they would normally get in their driveway. I keep hearing on the news how kids need to get more exercise. As a matter of fact I just heard that the kids in Tennessee are ranked 7th in obesity. Not sure if that is correct but someone can Google that if they want. Whatever the rank may be my opinion is that the more ways that you can give kids to exercise the better. I for one am willing to help try to control the kids coming in from other neighborhoods. I have spoken with others that have said they would help me. Why not give us a chance? With 759 homes in this community 15-16 would be about 2%. Looking at this message board as well as the meeting minutes and message board on the official website I can't say that I have seen 15 or 16 separate homes in favor of permanent removal of the hoops. At least not with what has been documented so far. If it comes down to more homeowners wanting the hoops removed then so be it but let's hear from more than 1 or 2% of the homeowners. So, I know that was a little long winded but I think the Board needs to get input from more homeowners in order to make a truly informed decision, especially when it involves permanently removing 1 of 4 amenities at our common area. Who knows someone my have an idea that the Board has not heard. We need to get the word to the homeowners. Maybe a flyer in the mailbox?
