Hi, I'm sort of new to this board, but I've been reading it for a while and always found the conversation here quite interesting. I've read all the original novels and the prequels, although I probably should read them again.
Anyway, Idaho, as I was reading the originals, I thought the same thing about the genetics part of it. I'm actually a genetics major right now, and it always did seem a bit peculiar that only the Atreides blood line seemd to have those awesome abilities. At first I thought that it's only due to the Bene Gesserit manipulation. You can do a lot in 90 generations until Leto II, and hundreds more generation until Miles Teg. I never actually gave Vorian much of a thought because I don't really take the prequels very seriously. However, your idea that it might have something to do with Agammemnon's life extension process is a great one. I just don't know for sure if Kevin and Brian actually thought it out that thoroughly and wanted to explain the Atreides superhuman abilities with the life extension process. I think they just wanted to keep a character alive for all 3 books to keep the readers somewhat engaged and maybe parallel Duncan Idaho's character in the original 6 novels. Although, it would be really cool if maybe the spark of the whole superhuman thing started out with his unnatural life extension.

Also, this is a bit offtopic, and slight spoilers as far as the enemy, but I really don't think that the enemy in books 7&8 is some sort of machine. From what I understand, Kevin and Brian have extended notes from Frank himself, and I doubt that Frank would have the machines come back. I know everything in the prequels points to machines being the enemy, but I realllllllly clinging to this hope that they aren't.
