Hey ChaniHwi,

Thanks for your comments. Of course the Bene Gesserit manipulations probably provided for most of the evolution of the Kwisatz Haderach, but I still wondered why it would have been the Atreides line that should have been cultivated. the unnatural Life Extension process seemed to be a logical choice to kindle maybe a spark of genetic potential. I mean after all Vorian's granddaughter is actually only the second being after Norma Cenva to awaken her Reverend Mother powers after she is ravaged by the plague and takes the C-Note Water. So I just thought there might have been a connection, but I agree that Brian and Kevin maybe didn't think that far through since if they had, they would have hit us over the head with it so many times in the book. Those two aren't subtle when making a point.

As far as the enemies in Dune 7 and 8, it is pretty clear that Erasmus' and Rekur Van's experiments with the face changing robots will eventually yield the weird Face Dancers in Dune 6. Remember, Frank NEVER had machines prevalent in his book except by their absence because of the paranoia following the Butlerian Jihad. Leto II looks into the future and sees that an old enemy will wipe out humanity. In The House Trilogy, Rhombur is in a Highliner accident when Dimur crashes the ship in the far reaches of space due to the AMAL spice inhalation. Dimur then gets a senses that they have been discovered by an "Ancient Enemy". Then in the Prelude to Dune Trilogy the first book alludes to the fact that Omnious is sending out probes to the far reaches of space to extend his Empire and it says that when humanity spread to the far reaches of Space, Omnious would already be there waiting. Then in the third book Erasmus is working with Rekur Van of the Tlulaxa on an experiment that sure seems like the prelude to face dancing robots, and when Omnious is defeated, he blasts one final update signal into the far reaches of space to connect with any kind of computer interface it can out there. In addition, Gilbertus Albans, the first Mentat, saves his copy of Erasmus and disappears, eventually to start the Mentat school (or so we are lead to believe).

Then in Chapterhouse: Dune, the Honored Matres are running from some fierce unnamed foe and at the end of the book these weird Face Dancers show up...hmmmm... what are we lead to believe then?

It is pretty obvious that the Face Dancers are in fact highly evolved machines. There really is no other conclusion. Frank had yet to even venture into this realm but implies throughout his novels that technology is a threat to humanity (a theme which many many other Sci-Fi stories have picked up on as well including the Terminator and Matrix movies). My guess is that if there are any surprises, it is in the fact that machines have become very human-like. They have Face Dancer Capabilities, individual personalities, and my guess is that they have prescience as well. We shall have to see how the Spice, the Worms, the humans, and the human-like machines clash together once and for all.

Sorry, but I don't think there is a hope that those Face Dancers in Dune 7 are anything but machines and I know that no one wants to see that, but it has been pretty clear ever since those House Books came out and they said "The Ancient Enemy has found us".

Best
-IDAHO-
