I came to my conclusion not reading Dune, but by reading Dune Messiah. :-)

Yes where you are in the book I agree Paul is a passenger of destiny.

Yes he starts the jihad, but again at the time he was just cresting his power, his visions were not total and he could not stop them from starting. BUT he could end them sooner (again dune messiah now)

A child secured his throne, without one there was turmoil, remember he never saw children either, not even when chani was pregnant he always saw only one. the daughter.

The daughter that could have been promised to harkonnen to seal the breach... or who had a future he could not see.. or or or.. the point being he did not really know why (incomplete visions) just that he had to.

Again... you really have to read dune messiah with this thought in mind. that's how I came to this conclusion. I thought is this possible? read the book with the idea in mind, and looked for proof that I was wrong or right.

Obviously I find my hypothesis correct. so I voice it :-)

but for you to TRULY disagree with me (which you are FULLY entitled to) I'd have to insist a fresh reading of Dune Messiah, and even to some extent children of dune for you to either disagree or agree.

:-)
