Subject: The Big Brown Tr uck

There has been alot of talk on other boards on Shyness ect.
I would like to tell this experience my male pup had a few months ago(age 18months).
We have always tried to build confidence in our pups in the games we choose and training. It seemed to be right on line,we could see improvement,at this age to me is a critical time for the BB male pup,he is in the process of becoming an adult.
Anyway,I was at work in town when my wife heard the dogs barking, she came to the door to see what the fuss was about when she saw the male pup running away from the house into the woods,so she went to the front door only to see the UPS truck pulling away, this was like 10:00 a.m.when I got home from work at 5:30 the pup was still gone.I went down into the woods and found the pup at the creek,he was freaked out and wouldn't even come to me upon first notice, when I finally got him to come to me he still had a small spot on his head it apppeard to be an oil.All I can figure out is the pup got maced and had enough since to get to the creek and put the fire out.
So now all the training and confidence building is gone, back to square one.The next morning I loaded him up in the pick-up and to UPS we went,as we approached he started with a low growl and then laid down in the seat. The next day same thing, but I pulled up along side a Big Brown Truck and he freaked out, scared to death.
So now almost two months later and many trips to the UPS garage he is finally getting used to them.
What I guess I'm trying to say is at these critical times of maturity it is important to keep an eye on and keep socializing them,we never know when some "IDIOT" in a Big Brown Truck will show up!!
