Hi Brian – its natural for man to approach everything in a logical way by having an explanation for why Yah did something – so lets look at it logically.

We can see where Pork and shellfish can spoil and carry diseases – but what about chicken and eggs which is a clean food and they can carry salmonella – rabbits are unclean – but I’ve never heard of any spoilage or disease issues with them.

I think we are not to eat certain animals because Yahweh had other planes for them – like rabbits are for other animals to eat not man – pigs and shellfish are scavengers that keep the land and ocean clean - same thing with birds of pray – they are meant to eat other animals and weren’t meant to be eaten by man. Yahweh has set up an ecosystem for all of His creation to thrive in according to their place in the food chain.

So as far as food perpetration and ecosystems are all logical ways of looking at why Yahweh would do something – but as a man with a finite mind could never really understand Yahweh’s logic behind something – the best we can only do is speculate.

So what do we then to know for sure what we are to do on a subject such what to eat – we go to scriptures -

We can see at the beginning Yahweh gave man all the plant yielding seed to eat (mushrooms are not a seed baring plant – they are a fungus) -

Gen 1:29 Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you;

Now, Things changed after the flood –

Gen 9:2 "The fear of you and the terror of you will be on every beast of the earth and on every bird of the sky; with everything that creeps on the ground, and all the fish of the sea, into your hand they are given. 3 "Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant. 4 "Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.

This sounds like we can eat everything and we can eat pig it tastes good – I like rabbit – and I’m even going to mention shrimp and crawfish for I might cry – But I think Paul says it pretty good when he says

1 Cor 6:12 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.

Even thought we can obtain nourishment from eating all flesh - not all things are profitable – we are to follow the example of the righteous – Noah was the only righteous man and when he loaded up the Ark he was to put one pair of each unclean animal and seven pairs of all clean animals (the clean and unclean laws existed well before Moses and Lev chap.11) – Noah being a righteous man sacrificed the clean animals and ate them – Just think if he would have ate one of the pigs we wouldn’t be having this conversation – or at lest about pigs anyway because there would not be any – The example of the righteous is to eat clean food – that’s why Yahweh had them put seven pairs of clean animals in the Ark – they were for food and this was before the Laws of Moses – this was what is known as Per-law and because there was only eight people on earth the eating clean food this law was observed by all men and was for all men – as we have learned the Law has not been done away with so the dietary laws have not been done away with for those who follow the example of the righteous – and there is no scripture in the new testament that will support the righteous in Messiah eating anything but clean food.

Here is a good link that can explain a lot on this subject -http://www.eliyah.com/clean.html
