Subject: In the dark

On 8/17/2021, the times herald put out an article detailing the new acquisition of a Police commissioner and Chief. It detailed their past law enforcement careers, and one being bilingual. But the article also pointed out what wasn’t known, and that was the contract for either of them. I find it funny, that the biggest positions in this city, department heads, have no public contract discussions or information, salaries, benefits packages, etc. How much are WE spending. The council has talked about transparency, but in this instance, there has been none. Transparency is only when they deem necessary, everything else is executive discussion, or some sort of legal situation that cannot be publicly discussed. I hope the inclusive council, will find a way, in their infinite wisdom, to disclose this pertinent and publicly necessary information. Also, include the City Managers contract as well. To me, all this should be on our fabulous website. There should be no mystery as to what these Dept heads make around here. The omittance of this information is by design. They talk about everything under the sun, but when some back door shit goes down, they are silent. I really hate how they do the peoples business in terms of releasing information on budget bearing items such as this situation in particular. Even more so, where is the public demand for information? These valid points where brought up in a newspaper article! Lastly, why are the cities residents informed of these major departmental hirings through periodicals and not from the duly elected officials. This is a city of after the fact press releases. All I’m going to say is wait for the budget discussions this fall! Overtime is killing us, blah blah blah. Not the alleged 200k for a managerial position, or the unnamed secret contracts for said individuals. Blame game on unions, and department heads in charge of said unions ( fire&police) will commence in the near future. To this I will say, remember the layoffs of police and fire, the turnover after these layoffs, precipitated by this city government not providing stability in those departments for retention. Whose going to work at a place where you don’t know you’ll have a job from year to year due to financial instability from mismanagement. Comptroller got us in the black, but he’s gone on to greener pastures, let’s see how this plays out.
