To clarify, these are Micro Units (MUs)NOT micro housing. There is no government engagement or subsideies other than updating zoning laws to allow for multiple single family units on the same lot. It's not government subsidized.

As for Micro Units (MUs), these are meant to be a pathway to home ownership and build future equity. The median home price is $300,000. This is a sum that I can’t afford and I’m sure that the majority of folks in Newburgh can afford either. The concept behind MUs is to build stand-alone homes, typically under 400 sq ft. These homes function the same as any other time of house or apartment. The strategy that I’m proposing is to leverage that vast amount of vacant city-owned lots to build micro unit communities. While individuals might not be able to afford stand-alone brownstone, they could afford their own ‘tiny home’ which typically cost up to $60,000.

I'd more than happy to sit down with you and discuss this idea as well as any other ideas that you might have. I got into this race to engage in these conversations and build consensus through pooled ideas and polices; you can't create a vacuum.
