While the city touts financial stability, by having all unions under contract through 2026. A bigger problem is coming to surface. That is the lack of internal ethical supervision on the FD. Personnel movement is not being vetted, to see if it abides by NYS civil service law. The council making claim to a salary increase, due to the success of the city's financial accomplishments. How were such accomplishments achieved? By the reduction of personnel and apparatus in public safety. This ultimately will lead to lawsuits from employees being discriminated against fair treatment within the department. I hope that the City's HR department, looks into the actions of the department and how it promotes. Stopping a skewed, and illegal interpretation on NYS civil service law. But it also is up to the FD union, to bring this up to the city, so fair treatment for its members is adhered to. With this being said, there definitely is a underlying problem in the management of the fire department from a civil service standpoint on promotions. Hopefully racism does not become an issue in this matter, because one of the individuals "skipped" is a person of color.
