Anyone remember the Summer Island crossing? We only covered 4.8 miles that whole first day. And it only got "rough" the last ~2.5 miles. I see one big problem with doing this trip. I think this trip is biting off a bit much if we want it to be inclusive AND safe. To me the best part about FBET its focus on removing barriers between normal people and true adventurous trips. It’s an awesome way to run a club. But there needs to be a line somewhere, we can’t take a rag-tag bunch of fantasy-football couch potatoes (i.e. me) on an expedition to summit Denali. I think the Rock Island trip defined our limitations as a group. Our limitations may change in time, but that's where they are now. And that’s not a knock on the group’s capabilities. Frankly, I don’t want to be in a group focused on summiting Denali. I’m proud to be a part of a group that is eager to attempt more than they are capable of. The trip IS doable, but do we each personally want to commit to something like that (especially given that there are other options)? And do we collectively want to push FBET into a situation where we have to kick people off of a trip for being totally unprepared?
