Subject: Worst decision of the YEAR

I saw the single worst decision of the year yesterday and I would love to hear the opinions of smarter people than me.

The Souths V Newcastle game where the shepherd occurred and wasn't pulled back because the Souths player had not received an advantage. Let's just follow that to its logical conclusion.

The Souths player stopped and waited for the Newcastle player to put his hands on him so he gained no advantage. It was called a tackle, play on and the next play Souths scored.

The Newcastle player would have been better off running away from the Souths player, in fact all the Newcastle players should have run away from the opposition player , allowed him to make some metres and then the penalty would have gone to Newcastle for a shepherd because they would have gained an advantage.

By simply putting his hands on the Souths player, or affecting a tackle, which is what he is supposed to do, he took away the advantage and didn't get the penalty. In fact, if the Souths player stops because he doesn't want to get an advantage and the Newcastle player refuses to touch him because he wants the penalty and that is the only way he can get it, what do we get? A stand off for five minutes.

Can anyone else see the absolute ridiculous nature of this rule? Run away and let the opponent score and you will get the penalty but stop him and you take away his advantage so you don't get the penalty.

Then I hear Harrigan come on Fox Sports and say that all the referees were in support of the rule.

How can they possibly justify that rule? Change it now......
