Subject: Imitation within Star Wars

For those of us who call ourselves "Star Wars" nerds, we know that Anakin Skywalker(Darth Vader) is prophesied as the one who will bring balance to the force. When he does not we justify it through him being the ultimate dark jedi and then creating Luke who is the ulimate good jedi. Watching the return of the jedi however, we see an instance of mimetic doubles. At the end of the movie Luke gives in to his anger and ends up having vader at his mercy (just like Vader becomes powerful through giving in to the "dark side") Yet Luke ultimately fights these urges and spares vader, showing why he is a "good" jedi. Only after this showing did Vader turn "good" and help Luke defeat the emperor. Also, they both have the same mentors: Obi-Wan and Yoda. It's as if they are mimetic doubles for one another. They have the same background (Tatooine outcast to Jedi, and great piloting skills) and the same mentors. Vader is good and then turns evil (as Luke does very shortly) but right after this point Luke reverses back to the "light" side, with Vader following close on his heels
