I questioned myself whether a cast member should comment, however, in view of the amount of controversy surrounding this play, I felt I owed it to those involved. Commedy is subject - not quite a marmite show - but subjective. We all have different tastes. Some people obviously stuck there necks out giving this script a bash, and I'm glad they did. Whether the script was good/bad/clever/indifferent is irrelevant now - the evidence was there to be seen night after night with the amount of laughter heard each night, the repeat ticket sales and ultimately, the balance sheet. Amateur theatre is about providing an arena for amateur performers to indulge and have a good time, to provide affordable performances for local audiences to attend, and supporting local charities. It's a shame that more support can't be provided, rather than condemnation. In this instance, we also gave a new playwrite the chance to see his script come to life. Finally, I think I speak on behalf of all of the cast in saying that this was a really enjoyable show for all of, we had a great time rehearsing and the atmosphere was a very happy one - a reminder of why we chose such a hobby.
