For me it's a little of both. The thought of doing something so bad that God would get really, really mad at me is a fearful thought. I don't want to disappoint the one who made me.

I act out of love and respect, and I don't act (sin) out of fear of offending God and risking damnation.

I think the Act of Contrition says it best.

"Oh, my god, I am heartily sorry for having offended thee.
I detest all my sins because I fear the loss of Heaven and the pains of Hell, but most of all because they offend you, my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love."

So for me it's a little of both. Fear isn't the motivating factor in what I do, but it is part of not acting inappropriately.
