Do you prefer the Latin Mass?

The Latin Mass is the one I attend regularly.

I go to mass every Sunday! I sing in the choir (when I am in town) so I made a commitment to it. I like how it "forces" me to go... even though at 9 AM Sunday I feel like I oculd stay in bed forever, I am always so glad and grateful that I am there. I sometimes feel I never want mass to end!

Here is the link to my parish

I would love to see where others go to mass.

but I grew up in a largely Roman Catholic neighbourhood and there was a wonderful Roman Catholic Church at the top of my street. (St. Basils) Most of my friends in the area were Roman Catholic as well and I would once in awhile attend mass with them, and I got to know the Priests and Nuns from the church very well. In fact, some of them would come to our house for tea! It was a good inter-action between religions and it garnished alot of respect on both sides. I even sang Christmas Carols at St. Basils on Christmas Eve...and was always made welcome. (I imagine that father Sylvester and Father Kelly must have wondered what this little Jewish gal was all about though! lol I just loved to sing! :-)

I felt the same way at the synagogue. They sang in Hebrew, but had it written w/ the English alphabet, so it only took a short time to figure out the pronunciations. It was so much fun to sing along. By the 2nd Bat Mitvah, I was doing pretty well. There's one more coming up--same family--and this time I'll be so proficient that no one will be able to tell that I'm not Jewish. lol

Most Catholic churches are welcoming. But some are horrible (the one I grew up in, for example).

When Billy made his First Communion, his instructor sat with us, and told his friend (Jewish) all about the symbolism in the church.

Did you know that the oldest synagogue (still standing) is in little Rhode Island?

The first Baptist church is here, too.

and it is quite thrilling to learn that you have attended your share of Bat Mitzvahs. I cannot follow Hebrew and I did not have a Bat Mitzvah, but both of my brothers had a Bar Mitzvah, of course. It is considered necessary for boys but not for girls. Thank you for your post in reply to mind...such an interesting read! :-)

Joan...that was so kind of you, and I am completely fascinated by Touro synagogue, having not heard of it's existence before. It is a magnificent structure with a wonderful history, and it's architect Peter Harrison was obviously quite brilliant! I have learned something new and exciting, and I am going to pass the information and site along to others who I know will value it tremendously. Thank you for your kindness and thoughtfulness both. Sincerely, Barb :-)

I was trying to go to weekday Masses several times a week, but the only one I can make starts at 7 a.m. and they don't have evening ones. To make it on time I was having to get up at 5 and be on the road by 6. I had to stop going because I kept falling asleep at work.

Yeah, you can only do so much. Going several times a week is an admirable thing, but if you're falling asleep...

I tried to go on one of the holy days of obligation-right after work-at the 7am Mass. I fell asleep in the pew. Very embarrassing. lol

So now I only go if I know I can stay awake.

We're having a memorial Mass for my father (1 year) on Saturday night. We usually go to the 9:30 on Sunday morning. I wonder if the 6:30 Mass will seem more somber because it's in the evening.

I'm a cradle Catholic born after Vatican II. I've never attended a Latin Mass, or attended Mass weekly.

I meant to say that I attended Mass weekly for the Sunday obligation for years, but I never attended every morning during the week. I haven't been to Mass at all for the past couple of years. The last Mass I attended was in 2003.
