I think he was the only child. I don't know this from studying it myself, since I don't know Greek or the culture. So I accept the teaching of the Church, because the scholars through the centuries are first rate.

I see a lot of arguments against Catholic teaching, but most of the arguments are made by people who don't know greek or the culture, or who try to read the NT w/ 21st century meanings. They don't give any consideration to the various writing techniques when they try to interpret the Bible. They also, very frequently, take passages out of context and ignore "inconvenient" passages.

So yep, I believe that Jesus is an only child.

When I was young and used to cry because I was an only child. I was always reminded that Jesus was an only child.
That made me feel special. If Jesus did have step brothers and sisters, that is going to remain a mystery and an issue that scholars will continue to debate. I will continue to believe that Jesus was an only child. Unless the Catholic Church says otherwise, but I'm sure it never will. If it did then that would put pressure on the church to state that the the De Vinci code was correct about Jesus being married and having a daughter, etc.... That changes the core of the Catholic Churches teachings. All of its teachings would be scrutinized. That could cause the Catholic Church to become an unstable institution.Perhaps even causing a modern say schism.
