Subject: Chap 61 Q3) I don't think Pat even thought about the danger he was putting himself into, he simply saw a person who needed help and went to do what he could. He, like Casey and Pamela, is simply incapable of watching something wrong happen and doing nothing. Q4) Living in Canada, I often see the differences in how events are reported in Canada and the US. And watching the BBC provides a completely different point-of-view again. Even within Canada, though, it's amazing what gets left out, or presented in a specific way in different papers within the same city. The whole idea that the media is unbiased and impartial is nonsense as even the best reporter brings their own bias to stories and so do the editors and publishers who choose the stories they want to feature, where they are in the paper/broadcast and which quotes they choose.

  • 61.1) Lack of democracy a surprise?? Heaven forbid the popular vote should ever be a deciding factor. (After seeing how weak our dollar really is, I'm going to avoid the entire discussion of politics. Not because I'm cynical - which I am - but because I might hurt somebody!) (61.2) Bernadette Devlin was given no quarter that I could see. It wasn't her gender that drew the attention so much as her youthfulness I think. She was looked upon as such a radical in Parliament, and viewed with a jaundiced eye by most. She was almost assassinated once, and also, if memory serves, not allowed to enter the US. This was one brave gal, especially when she was pregnant but unmarried, IIRC. She was In Your Face in a big way. My kinda MP. (NT) -- Elaine, 05:32:47 10/12/07 Fri
