The slight smile that she offered him was quite possibly the most beautiful thing that he'd ever seen in his life, if for no other reason than it meant that she truly was serious...that she truly was still his.

He hadn't known a love that could exist...one that ran so deep that despite everything, she was willing to have him. Perhaps he'd never understood the true meaning of unconditional love...or hadn't really believed it was meant for him. But here she was, her clear blue eyes so still so innocent even with the passage of tme, telling him that yes, she had meant that she still considerded him her fiance. It was profound.

He captured her soft hand with his own deeply calloused one, giving it a slight squeeze. As she asked for his promise that he would not leave her again, he reflected on the life he'd lived these past years. He'd not been involved in any illegal activity, and while he hadn't been happy, he knew it was because she wasn't with him. He didn't know what Tumbler would have to say when they all met again, but he was giving serious thought to throwing in the hat on the ring. He was simply not willing to put this chance with Laurie on the line, ever again. "You have my word. I'm not going to leave you again, not unless you make me. And if I go anywhere...it's because we decided to go." He said said softly.

He nodded to her words about not rushing. Hell, he was still trying to wrap his mind around what was happening here now. He'd gotten into the Audi expecting to be screamed at...socked, anything. He should have known better, as Laurie had never been that type of woman. But it was how he would have reacted, if he was in her shoes.

"That's perfectly okay...don't worry a second over that. We've got a long road ahead of us, Laurie Ann...it's going to take time for us to get ready again." He reached up, touching her cheek softly. "However long that takes...I'll be here." He smiled at her then, a hopeful smile that seemed to erase the aging of the past decade from his boyishly handsome face. "We have nearly ten years of catching up to do. I can't believe it's been so long."
