Date Posted: 12:59:07 05/09/23 Tue In reply to: Steve 's message, "Re: Australian tobacco excise tax" on 09:10:25 05/09/23 Tue I really feel for the old folk who enjoy a cigarette and a beer after a hard day's work. Many simply can't afford to retire with the cost of living and are working into their 70's and 80's to make ends meet. Many have worked hard to own their home, have given their kids a decent education and a leg up with a deposit for their homes. They have paid their due taxes all through life. Every time tobacco taxes are increased, so does beer, wines and spirits. And as you rightfully say, food, transport, petrol and everything else also is on the rise. These people are unlike the few who put their money through poker machines, drink 10 beers at the pub after work and wonder why they can't afford to pay into a superannuation fund. They are the ones who piss their money up against a brick wall and then they live on the public purse forever. I don't feel for that group whatsoever. I'll see you in the UK at which time I'll call in and buy a few carton and hopefully they're be a bit of change and we'll go out to lunch or a beer/wine and have a good old chat. I'll bring my Pommy ears so I can pick up your accent. I trust you'll ride out the financial storm with your business. Haha Danika xx [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
