The rule is, you can't compete at MISS AMERICA twice. The girl who was Miss CO became Miss CO because she was 1st RU to the girl who won Miss America. So she inherited the crown and never competed at Miss America. This is something that's been done before by other girls who inherited their state title. Most notably, the girl who was 1st RU to Miss IL became Miss IL after Ericka Harold won Miss America. About a week later, she was in a horrible car accident and spent her year recovering. The next year, she crowned her successor and the year after that, she won Miss IL outright and competed at Miss America. Completely acceptable to do this -- Guru Message Board

Yes, the same thing happened with Shauna Pender. But Shauna had aged out of the system, so she took over for Erica Dunlap and then two weeks later, was almost killed in a car accident on her way to an appearance. She spent months in rehab. She was a singer for talent and there was too much damage to her vocal chords. Miss Il was Michelle LaGroue. She is now Michelle LaGroue Conradt and lives in Charlotte, NC with husband and 2 sons. She almost died in that car accident. (NT) No name
