Hi Sylvia,

Thank you for taking the time to reply, it is appreciated :) I am inclined to agree with you, I don't think that driving such things underground is actually good for anyone involved, sadly.

My husband is fully supportive and we are a United Front together, but practicality means I am the bad cop parent much of the time- as you say, with the importance of a timely and quickly resolved punishment outweighing equal action by both parents. I can well believe you have the easiest bedtimes in the world, thin pyjamas must make the boys acutely aware of not annoying the nearby parent - we take a similar approach to you but use an old carpet slipper - though there are old plimsolls here and I have actually put one in the airing cupboard as a thoughtful option- though in this cold, may have just been an excuse to go in the airing cupboard myself! And we find the same here, reminding of the existence of the slipper or a sharp hint (in public, cryptic enough) is often enough to avoid the use- though as my husband puns "better a warning than a warming" - groan! That being said, you would think any warming would be welcome in this snowy cold, how strange that not everyone in the family agrees!
