Hello Josh and greetings from the winter hemisphere (central Europe).

Great your children can be barefoot most of the time too!
Here it's not that common, only in the summer there will be a few other kids joining ours barefoot outside, but when it cools down below 20°C they're usually the only ones remaining.

How is it at school? Here our children can go barefoot all year round, the school has a rule that outdoor shoes shouldn't be worn inside, implying that they put on house slippers but after all we found that going barefoot is allright as long as their feet are clean enough. Actually about half of their classes are in socks in the schoolhouse so there are quite a few dark footprints on soles to be seen (maybe the schoolhouse isn't all that clean after all ...)

When it's dry and freezing cold my daughter sometimes goes out in just her wool socks, with a similar effect (at least that makes it clear which one is left and right when she puts them back on).

I heard that south African schools have detailed dress codes and school uniforms, allowing bare feet only in southern hemisphere summer and up to a certain age, is that right? Are there any other kids coming barefoot to your school?

Best greetings from winter, Anita
