Hi,

Your post got me thinking a bit. Why do you think your mom went easy on you, and why did she bother spanking you at all?

I always ask myself, how can I be a fair parent, and I also realise that consistency is important.

What I mean is that I tend to imagine a boundary around all the house rules. Sometimes kids push it by saying too much, or being late a bit, and I correct their behaviour verbally.

Once they cross the line, they are being disciplined, and it's a strong signal that their actions won't be tolerated anymore.

Your mom seemed to be displeased by what you had said, and felt the need to correct your behaviour. I just find it interesting that she used neither her words, nor her usual methods, but she found a middle ground.

I tend to think that it sends a mixed message, and if you were mine I'd rather have a discussion with you, or commit to your punishment.

Sorry for bothering you, I just had this thought, and I felt like sharing it.
