I agree Lorna, the culprit should be fully naked for his or her judgement and punishment by the parent. The same way we will all be naked under the eye of the Lord, when it is time for our final judgment by Him.

In our house, undressing is the first step in our punishment ritual. During the next step I confront them with their sins, and they get a chance to explain themselves. Once I'm convinced, they have understood what they did wrong, they are given whatever punishment I deem appropriate. After that is administered, I have them kneel in front of a cross to talk to the Lord about their sin and pray to Him for forgiveness for at least 30 minutes. However, they can take as long as they need, if they need more time. The final step is the symbolic washing away of the sin, preferably by fully emerging them in a large barrel of water we keep in our back yard, but a cold shower will have to suffice if the weather doesn't permit that. Once that is done, they are allowed to dress themselves again.
