Hello all. My name is Greg and my wife Cindy and I have two great daughters, Melissa, 8, and Hannah, 5. Since this is a family-oriented forum, I will assume it's OK for Dads to post here. I am also impressed that the moderators are Christians and believe in traditional values regarding raising children. I know there are other forums on voy that focus on families and raising kids, but we are active in our church and are doing our best to raise godly children. This is a good place for us to post.

We live in the midwest and practice midwestern values, including discipline. We use several forms of reinforcement for behavior, both good and bad. We believe in incentivizing good behavior and, when needed, punishing bad behavior. We incentivize by praising good behavior, treats, extra privileges, gold stars on the fridge, and staying up late on movie nights. (Friday & Saturday only)
On the other hand, we discipline, sometimes using methods unpopular by contemporary standards, but we feel that it works best for us. We do spank as our primary method of punishment. Spanking is not the only punishment we use. We also utilize long talks, early bedtimes, and warning swats to the behind, followed by being sent to their room. Denial of a desert at dinner time, and we slap mouths for sassy or inappropriate language. That can be accompanied by a trip to the bathroom for a taste of soap.

Bedtime is 8:00 every night during the week. We believe firmly in being in bed on time, and a spanking often accompanies early bedtimes. We also firmly believe that spanking is a biblical way to guide and punish children. We do not use maintenance spankings. We feel that spanking should only be used as a very unpleasant punishment for being naughty. The amount of spankings in our house varies by month.
It's not excessive, but it may be on par with others who post here. Jeans, shorts, pajama bottoms, and underwear come down when we punish. Not every time, but when we pull down their pants, the girls know they have seriously misbehaved and will experience some unpleasant consequences.
