My Aqha's -- Kat, 06:36:54 01/27/02 Sun

Heya Guys,
Right now I have All Zipped Up out he's having a blast doing practice reining and barrel racing. He's the best! After we were done I untacked him and put him back in the paddocks. Then I went to the mare Paddocks and did some clicks to get Apollo's Conclusion's attention. Right away she ran down towards me. I couldn't wait to get her out in the ring and barrel racing. She came right to my face as i patted her. Then snorted to show some affection. Then I slipped her lead rope on carefully not to startle her. And opened the gate and led her to the crossties in the barn. She stood perfectly still and let me go about her tacking her up and moving whenever asked too. Then when I got her out in the ring she was full of life wanting to please and do her best. We raced around the barrels like we were flying with ease and grace. Then when we were finished I was astonished at how she had beat her old time she had beet it by ten seconds less. I was so proud i fed her, her favorite treat and let her go back to hang with all her friends.

The boys and girls -- Kat, 06:28:03 01/17/02 Thu

Hey guys i'm out training King of Hearts now. Hopefully him and Sahara Charm get to champ page soon. I'm taking Tee out next to let her have some fun in the ring with her mommy of course Temtation. Oh no Rocky my mini got out of his stall i guess he wants to play with Tee someone his own size right now until she gets older. Next i'm taking out Fancy That, Apollo's Conclusion, and Dun Up Riol Pretty to do some practice reining. Silent Skys and Angel are doing excellent in Hunter. And hopefully i can get Out of Odds into some racing soon. Well I better finish up for someone else to take the ring soon so tootles.

Training Aladinn -- Sophie, 06:21:17 01/06/02 Sun

Hey guys today is the big day when I finally have time to work with Aladinn after all those shows. I grabbed him from the paddock where he was romping with Fatal Kiss and Golden Tide. Those guys are the funniest trio... anyway. I clipped on a lead shank and led him up to the training barn, clipping on crossties. I ducked into the tack room and grabbed a worn hunt saddle, it was in really good shape for it's job, for young horses to get used to the saddle. I let him smell the saddle and then I took the saddle pad and spread it over his back. Next I slid the saddle on his back. He didn't move, I gave him a carrot and congradulated him. Then I let him smell the girth. He eyed it as I attached it to the saddle, then I went around and pulled up the girth to his other side. No response, he seemed to coil up, I stroked his shoulder, he calmed down and I tighened the girth so it would not fall off. Then he went off like fireworks!!!!! Bucking in the hall he stood. I talked to him as I managed to clip a lead rope on his bridle and upclipped the saftey crossties. Aladinn tries to drag me out the barn, no way though I had trained to many horses for him to try this.
I had him come to the jumping ring since Dor Echo and French Kiss were being worked in the indoor arena and the dressage rings Aladinn could easily jump. I let him loose in the arena. He took off, tearing at the jumps. THEY WERE WAY TO HIGH FOR HIM!!!! They were 5'6" at the least since I had been working En Gagea in here a few hours ago. Aladinn I thought was going to crash into the top rail, they were way to high for him... but no he tore at the oxer like a mad devil. One two three strides up and... over!! I couldn't believe it my two year old warmblood is doing jumps as high as my four year old seasoned arabian jumper!!!! Holy crow... when aladinn finally slowed down after jumping eight more jumps. I took him to the hot walker and had him cooled out with Frenchie and Dori.

Riding -- Sophie, 13:29:15 12/02/01 Sun

Hey guys I'm taking a few horses out to excerise.
Dor Echo- I went for a trail ride with Echo she spooked at a squirrel and I fell off =) j/k. I got off of her at the brook in the back of my woods and I dropped my rein on the ground to ground tye her. As you know western horses are supposed to do that. Well apparently she wasn't trained for that. She took off down the stream towards the barn.....
..... I ran back. I found her in her paddock someone had untacked her and put her up for the night.....

Okay well.... -- Sophie, 15:49:11 12/01/01 Sat

Well if your busy then I'm just gonna work my horse in the ring and then take out Heart of Gold. Then we can jump. I don't want to strain Persuasion's leg muscles at her age especially since she's going to be a big girl.

We can take the horses after I'm done working Persuasion. We could go on my cross country course. Goldie's waiting to go for a spin.

To Do -- Sophie, 15:34:57 12/01/01 Sat

How does a warm up on the trails sound. You'll need a horse with long legs. She's 16.2 @ 2yrs. old.

Anyway after the trail ride we can head to the indoor riding ring at my place. Persuasion doesn't jump yet but I don't think I'll have her trained in that yet so we can just introduce her to the caveletti. OK?

Working My Mares And Looking for A Riding Partner Every Tuesday or So! -- Sophie, 14:55:51 11/21/01 Wed

Natural Pizazz- Taking a lead rope I go to get Zazz. She Comes Trotting up to the gate with her two buddies Frenchie (French Kiss) and Viv(Survivor Odds). I clip the lead rope on and open the gate. She trots right out shaking her head anxious to get going. I trot her over to the training barn and clipped her on crossties. She snorted as I came back with my dressage saddle. After she was tacked up I brought her out and mounted up. We walked over to the dressage arena. We warmed up and then worked on her counter cantering and piruettes.

Haziz Kalem- Grabbed her out of the paddock and tacked her up western. She realized what we were doing and as soon as I mounted she immediately walked over to the indoor arena.........

I will finish later I have to go now.

BY the way I am looking for a riding partner to work on eventing with.......

Working My Stallions -- Sophie, 16:03:49 11/14/01 Wed

Heart of Gold-I took Gold to the prix arena and we warmed up with some caveletti and crossrails. He held his form over the jumps nicely. As he began to get bored of these he started to throw himself over them... not good at all. So I shortened up the reins and went on my way to the cross country course. He snorted. I tugged on the rein and he stopped thinking I decided to take him over the newe path my new 12 miler. It has twenty new jumps and is 7 miles long. That should be a thorough workout. Pulling at the bit we entered the box. I set him up and started my watch. We were off. He immediately galloped around the ridge to the first combo a old hay stack and a 4 foot log. He took them with ease. I tightened up and he slowed down quickly. At the third jump out of high spirits he bucked over the fence and unseated me tossing me onto his neck. Recovering my seat I slapped his neck and we galloped on. We had a good go!

Dark Victory-Today we worked on western sports with Vicki. He behaved beautifully. He kept his head good and low but he fought the bit. I think I'm going to need a lesson with you Telusive.

Blacklord Arabi- He did beautifully in his dressage workout. He bended perfectly and went into the different transitions easily. Then I lined up some cavelletti and trotted and cantered them. He really enjoys this. I hate to put his brigadoon on he hates it so much.

WD Bey Shah Faz- Worked on english seat with me today. He pulls on the bit to much and I don't appreciate it. He is trying to get to the mares. Im thinking about gelding him.. what do you guys think?

SRD Nuryev Beh- Worked Halter today. He's getting rusty... Free Lunged him today over jumps. He likes to throw himslef over them. Im going to put a saddle on him and ride him for the4 first time since I bought him.

En Gagea- Worked Dressage. If I haden't Known better I would have believed he was a schoolmaster and not a young horse. Possibility of training him to be a hunter.

Trepidation- Taught him to do a Passage and a Piruette. Is so Graceful. Keeps hhis head where it needs to be without
the brigadoon. Does a great Half Pass. Good Stud Exception!

Victory Gallop-Doing well in dressage.Prefer to race him till to old to race. Very clumsy growing to 17.1 hands tall!!!! Getting to be a big boy

Any questions or suggestions? Reply to the message!

Working My New Foals and the Yearlings -- Sophie, 15:29:09 11/13/01 Tue

Working the Yearlings

Fantasy's Kiss- Is doing great. I have started her on the lunge line. At first she was a sassy pants but then calmed right down to do her work. She has been working hard and she can do w/t/c commands.

Aladinn- Since he his older and more mature at his age then the fillies he has started free jumping. I have made the jumps no more than four feet high so he doesn't ruin himself before he is ready to show. He is passed most of the normal lunging work and is doing free lunging and caveletti. He will certainly be the ideal eventing horse for my show string.

Golden Tide- Is doing great on the lunge line. She picks her feet up high and proud she just might be the ideal saddleseat or english pleasure horse. She has gaits to die for.

DV's Dark Kal- Her future as a Halter horse is running towards her with open arms. She is very charming and antsy. She doesn't agree with the lunge line so I have started with her on free lunging instead.

DV's Fatal Kiss- He just might turnout to be the top colt of the bunch of horses that I have. He had fluid pretty movment and loves to work hard and long. I love his attitude. he knows what he is doing... and I am proud of him.

_____________________________
The following foals are new to my herd of horses and are all getting ready for the halter showes:

French Twist(En Gagea and French Kiss)

Lady of the Dance (Blacklord Arabi and Night Dancer)

Mercedes (Heart of Gold and Natural Pizazz)

Sail On Haziz (Victory Gallop and Haziz Kalem)

Calli Image (Dark Victory and Imagine That)

Gatsby (Trepidation and Winnning Colors)

Feirra (Heart of Gold and Just Radiant)

Previous Engagment (En Gagea and Dolly)

i rode.... -- shadow, 12:07:57 11/11/01 Sun

Shadows Wake Up Call: I took her out to one of the outdoor arenas. She was pretty spooky today. I think because of the weather. Anyways we rode in circles and trotted up and down the arena. After we were warmed up i set the barrels out. So we did some runs and she was great. Too bad we wernt at a show. After that i cooled her off and i went to get my next horse.

Americas Nation: I took him out to the dressage arena. We were working on the lvl 4 test patterns. He did great. I was so happy. Hes also a very good and high pt stallion. He has over 500pts for a friesian. Well i took him to the trails and we enjoyed the fresh air.

Sweet kiss: i took sweet kiss to the jumping arena. We worked on some 5'jumps and she took them great. After that i took her on the trails. Shes going to be bred and while shes pregnant we are only going to trail ride and do a little bit of dressage.

ride -- pony girl, 15:34:15 11/10/01 Sat

Dancing Queen- I brought Queen out to the western ring. I mounted on her and asked her to walk on the rail. After 5 mins of walking around I asked for the jog. She is very relaxed a centered I then asked for the lope she was very collected. She was very good.
Blue Eagle Down- Blue was excellent today he soared over 6ft jumps and some water jumps. He was very collected and attentive to my cues. He was very good today.
Express Way- Express Way and I did dressage today. Even though he is new and quiet energetic. He was very calm when I rode him. He seemed like the horse I was looking for. He was excellant at advanced moves and is a very nice mover.
Merlin's Midnight Magic- Merlin is a great jumper. Since he is a hunter he was very god and took just the right sride toward te poles. He did very good.

They did awesome, well kinda -- Margaux, 14:23:32 11/04/01 Sun

I rode Peanut (Chocolate covered Peanut)western today. He did really good. He moved deep behinde at the lope and had a very consistant trot and walk. I did showmanship w/ him too. His back was a lil crocked but other than that the set ups, turns, walks and trots were really good.

Tee (Sonday Tea) did great. I did a few western riding patterns w/ her. Her lead changes were flawless. I hope she does this good at the next show. Her showmanship still needs a little work.

Major (A Major League) did really well. He has such an awesome and natural walk, trot, and lope. I did a lil western and then english. He did really good english. His head was nice and level and he was really extending.

Scooby did pretty good. He was a little off at the trot tho. I might have to get his hocks injected. Maybe he was just stiff from being in the stall so long.

Cowboy (double hancock cowboy) did good. He still needs some work on his lope. it is still a little fast for western and he looks really bad english. so, i have to get is slowed down.

I lounged my new baby Buck (easy buckin deal)he is goin to be 1 nice cutting, reining, and working cow horse. He just is the nicest, sweetest thing.

Getting my horses out -- Princess, 08:26:05 11/03/01 Sat

At First Touch- I rode touchy(At First Touch) he went nicely. I don't want to rush him so i only did X's and small verticals.

Big Red- I'm only hand walking Red around the ring. She is very well behaved on the line. I havn't decided a future for Red yet.

Soul Teaser- I luonged him today, he was perfect. He keeps his head in one spot and i like that, but I may need to start to get it lower.

Riding My Horses -- Jouster, 16:56:32 10/22/01 Mon

Tequila Sunrise: He is doing well- i am working him @ walk/trot/canter on the lunge and he is doing his best! one more week of work, and he will be ready for a rider i think!

White Mocha: She is doing very well, I'm working towards showing her more, so i worked on 10 m. circles/half-circles staying more balanced to the outside

Jumpin' Jack: Did okay- took him x-country, schooled over 3'6" jumps, and did one 3'9" table bounce! he did much better than i expected!

Miss Molly: took her about 10 min. to get all of the bucks out, but she finally settled down, & our stadium ride went quite well, we schooled over 2'9" combanations, she cleared them w/ ease- i'm gunna mover her up soon!

Mister Mister: he did a quick warm-up and then a 1 1/2 mile breeze, breaking from the gate-- he is getting much more confidant!

Aswyn van delniro: Doing exceptionally well, his canter serpentines are much better, with the flying lead changes to the right getting better and better!

Lyndal: her dressage needed work, so I worked on balancing more to the left, she keeps falling in, so i tried Prince of Wales spurs on her, and she seemed to take to them well, so i need to start doing dressage in them, along w/ a whip in the left hand, just to remind her to not let her hind end swing in @ the trot and canter

Jack: worked on conditioning w/ him, doing five 20 min. trot sets up and down hills, with a 3 min. walk b/twn them- then i did two 9 min. gallop sets up and down hills, with a 1 min. trot followed by a 5 min. walk b/twn the two!

Riding my horses -- Summer, 15:58:31 10/16/01 Tue

I take out Nobel brush him good. I warm him up by walking then trotting around the arena. I kick him a little, to make him lope. When I'm done, I get off, and put up some barrels. His time is 14.3 seconds. I get off him, and unsaddel him. Then I get a hose, and wash him off. I give him a 30 min rest, and then ride him bareback fo about 1 hour. I get off and put him on a hotwalker. He walks around for a hile, then stops. I take him off the hot walker, and give him a sugar cube. I take his lead rope off, and put him inside his stall.

NEWS FLASH IN MY BARN!!! -- Sophie, 15:46:59 10/16/01 Tue

Hey guys I just stopped by to say hi and how everything is going fine here at my stable. Dark Victory is up to stud and his fee is $600 as starters it will continue to go up..... as he continues to do well. I also have a few horses to lease and two for sale. Precious in the Making and Tut's Coal...... Tut is for sale because he has grown up into quite a horse. Also I do not want to keep a morab in the barn, as he will just be put to the side as new foals are coming up and I need some more room..... because with Optic Pizazz(arab) and Aladinn(WB) getting older and about to come over to the stallion barn. since there are only eight stalls in my stud barn I need to make room for my others on the way. More information on Tut is on my stallion page http://www.expage.com/sofsophiestallion .

Riding My horses -- Summer, 15:49:24 10/14/01 Sun

Perfect Image: I go to Image's stall, and put on a halter and lead rope. I take him outside and tie him up. I brush him, and put on his saddle and bridle. I jump over some 5' jumps, and he perfect. When I go over the 6' he knocks a couple down. I try again, and he does perfect!! I get off, and give him a break while I set up some barrels. He's a little slow, but thats okay. When he finishes the barrels, I brush him off and put him back in his stall.

Midnight's Dream- I take Midnight out of the corral, and put a lead rope and halter on. I decid to ride her bareback...I have to work on my balance. I walk, then trot Midnight around a little circle, then do a figure eight. I trot around in some circles, then canter around the arena. After I take her to her stall and brush her really good. I give her a carrot, then leave.

Black Magic- I go over to a fence where Magic is. She trots up to me. I walk inside, and give her a peice of apple. I start to brush her. I save the hoof picking for last, because she dosen't like it. When I get to picking her hoofs she lays her ears back, and trys to kick me. I slap her lightly, and she stops. I put a halter and longe line on her and she trots around her pen. After 30 minutes, I let her run around and I sit by a tree. She runs around like crazy!! I think she'ss be a godd race horse when she gets older. 15 mintutes later, i take Magic inside to her stall. I give her one last sugar cube, then leave.

Riding my horses -- Summer, 16:39:42 10/10/01 Wed

Willow King- I take King out to pratice King on his jumping. He jumps wonderful over the 4', but has a little trouble with the 5'. With a little more practice, he should be ready to compete!

PriceLess Beauty- I put the lunge line on Beauty first, because I haven't rode her in a while. Then I saddel her up and walk her around the arena. I do some level || dressage, and she's perfect!!

Black Magic- I take Magic out of her stall, and brush her good. Then I take out a lounge line, and let her walk around. I start to make her trot, then lope. I take the lunge line of, and put her out into the corral. I watch her run around, for a few minutes then walk inside the barn. After about 30 minutes, I take Magic out and put her back in her stall.

Young Trainers Clinic -- Dixie, 18:32:19 10/03/01 Wed

As part of a clinic for people who want to be trainers, I do a demonstration with several of my young horses.

I start with a yearling Hannoverian colt. "This is Art Interpretation, his daddy is the paint Hanno, Art Deco. We'll cover basic leading." I clip a lunge line on his halter. "Oridinarily I have another line that goes along the other side and comes up on his back legs, but this guy's beyond that point." I click to the colt, giving him the firm "walk" command. He gingerly steps forward. I go over the baic lunge commands with Arty, then let him go back to his stall.

"Now we'll go up a step, the little filly I'm going to bring in next a two year old, a racer" A pretty gray TB filly is lead in. "This is Survivor, she's still a bit unpredictable, watch her reactions." I tighten the cinch on her bareback pad, and take the reins to her snaffle bridle, then mount up. She immediately pins her ears and stamps her fore leg. I gently nudge her to a walk and click to her. She steps forward. After about three seconds she starts a fast trot, I pull her back to a walk, then halt her. "You notice how she picked up that trot? That was her own idea. You also noticed how I pulled her to a walk, then a halt? That's to keep her from stopping everytime I tug the reins." I guide her slowly to the rail, we walk around a few times, then halt and back.

The next horse brought out is a ligh bay Arab mare about four years old. "This is an example of a dead-broke, do-it-all horse. She can cut, race barrels, rein, do dressage, jump, rope, just about anything." I mount up on her in a nice little western saddle. We start around the rail, then go to a nice western jog, then a beautiful canter, then a smooth sliding stop, and a spin. "That agility is what helps her win in western." We go back to te rail and pull off a beautiful extended trot, then a series of side passes down the diagonal, a few shoulder-ins, and some more side passes, I pull her a nice squared up halt. "And the precision you see the side passes, that's what puts her above the rest of the junior and amatuers."

I remain seating on her. "To train you must connect with the horse. It's not merely getting the horse to do what you want. You must ask, and you must perform as well. And don't just ride...race across the pasture, race against time. Don't confine yourself to just one event. If you ride only western, get yourself a dressage horse. Or if you just ride english, I suggest a nice western pleasure horse. And one of the most beautiful things is breeding a foal, training it, showing it, then selling it to a good owner. Your pride will be tremendous."

Working some more of my horses -- Dixie, 15:02:24 10/02/01 Tue

Dun It Clean-- Cleaner seems a bit of our halter work, so I tack him up and take him to the indoor arena. We start by running through a reining pattern. He does about as well as the average junior reiner. We run the barrels next, as expected, he's a bit slow. As our last thing we go over the western riding pattern for the upcoming show. He does very well

Pride Of The States-- Pride is laid back as usual. We warm up on the rail. Starting with a nice walk, and then his beautiful western pleasure jog. After he's warmed up, we work on barrels. He beats his best time by half a second.

A Woman's Touch-- Woman is her usual docile self. I just ride her bareback this time. We do a little of a western riding pattern, then I cool her down.

**For Sale** My Sale Horses Get Workouts -- Dixie, 12:12:36 10/02/01 Tue

As a special thing, I decide to a show of my sale horses to sell them faster.

Harmony-- The first horse I bring out is a pretty little Egyptian Arabian mare. She's a young (4 years) bay. I lead her in with a plain rope halter, she responds well even to the thin rope. We halt in the middle of the arena, and I take the halter off of her then lay it over the fence. Her eyes are pricked forward, and her eyes are focused on me. I stand on her left side. I start to walk giving the verbal command "walk" and clicking to her. She walks right side me, I take a step towards her, semi facing her, we do a circle to the right in this fashion, then I step back a bit, and she does a circle to the left. She's just completed a figure eight off lead. (And yes, this can be done, my own equine does it for me, among ther things) We halt center ring and I take a step to the left, and w walk to the left short side. We turn, and trot down the middle of the arena. Then I climb up on her, and we do some basic ground work: walk, trot, extended trot, and a nice canter in both directions.

Delight's Come On-- The next horse I lead out is a good-looking, young spotted (black and white) TWH stallion. He's three yars old and tacked in hacking equipment. I mount up and take him over to the rail. We start with a plain walk. Then take it up to a perfect over-reach TWH trot. We follow this with a western jog, an extended trot, and a collected trot. After another five minutes of gates, we do a few jumps (3 feet and under), and some spins. He responds well.

Jouster working Horses -- Jouster, 17:12:24 10/01/01 Mon

Tequila Sunrise: he is doing so well on the lunge-- his balance has really improved, and only getting better! he can do balanced downward transictions from the trot to walk now (as balanced as a foal can be!)

White Moca: I'm still at awe with her movements. she is moving off of my leg great, and listening to my seat and hands like a star!

Heart of Gold: Every day has to have trouble! he wasn't bad, he just wasn't has perfect as he was the other day! we had a little bucking fit at the beginning, but he got over it and then did his flat work nicely-- he is an okay mover, just needs some work with staying on the bit!

The studs cut -- Dixie, 13:39:35 10/01/01 Mon

Gone 'n Dun It-- we start with some basic railwork, to warm up, then we do some work on out spins and sliding stops. Then we move on to the cow arena. There's a brand new bunch
of cows in, now of which have ever been worked. I take GD to the rail and completly untack him and replace his curb with a plain bosal. I climb back up and we go into the herd. He cuts the first cow well, although I'm working mostly on keeping my balance, finally we let the cow go. We pick another, this time I'm balanced, and can pay more attention to how he's doing. We cut a few more and I cool him down.

Dun It Like A Man-- DunBoy seems eager to work today. He's cut cows with me bareback before, so he's used to it. If GD is great, DunBoy is the best. I'm amazed at how fast he seems to move, even after riding GD who's not slow himself. The cows are a bit warmed up, but our first calf is a bit jumpy..he's goes bucking off to the other end of the arena. DunBoy leaps after him, and chases him back to the proper spot, then darts in front of it, getting between it and the herd. DunBoy cuts him as if everything's normal. We work a few more, then do a little rail work.

Marlett Poco-- This is our first time cutting cows together. Poco seems alright with it. For some reason, riding a Paint rather than a buckskin QH sees a bit different to me. He's bit finer boned, and a little smaller than GD and DunBoy,but he seems to be just as confident around the cows. And I soon learn he's very good. I can tell he's een ridden by many people, and was tained well.

Jouster Working Simply Irresistable -- Jouster, 17:27:54 09/03/01 Mon

I longed him before I worked him today, just like my dressage trainer suggested. When I got on, I immediatly felt a difference, he was much more responsive to my seat, and I didn't have to go through the normal first five minute fuss that normally goes on before our intense dressage ride, which went very smoothly.

Hey Sophie, would you like to do a doubles course with me and Fury's Fire? I'm trying to teach him to get better at not running out at jumps, so if he has a horse on one side of him, and a fence on the other side then he can't run out! So I've got a doubles course set up, let's go!

Trainig my filly -- Summer, 16:14:34 08/20/01 Mon

Today I started to train my filly/mare Magic. I took her out of her stall. She whinnied. I put her halter on, and tied her up. I got out my grooming box and brushed Magic. Then I set up some jumps. I put Magic on a lunge line, and lunged her over the jumps. She jumps wonderful!! I put the jumps up to two feet, she's only a filly. I think she's afraid off the jumps, because she jumps a lot higher than the jump. When i was done I went down to the creek. I let Magic play in the water for 30 min's. When I got back to the stabel, I dried Magic off and cleaned her feet. Then I put her in her stall. I gave her a carrot then left. If you want to go to the creek with me and Magic just post a reply to this message.

Ginger -- Summer, 17:02:25 08/19/01 Sun

I took Ginger outside. I hadn't ridden her for a long time. She jumped around while I was sadling her. I took her on the creek trail. Ginger loved the water. WHen I got on her back I walked her arond for 15 min. Then I walked her down the path to the creek trail. I started to trot, and when I got to the creek I stopted and let Ginger play in the water for a while. After about 10 min's We started to trot, then I started to lope. Ginger has the smoothest lope. (and trot) When I reached the barn I slowed her to a trot then a walk. I tied her her up by her stall and got out some barrels. I set them out and got up on Ginger's back again. First we troted around the barrels. Then I don't know why I guess she just wanted to go, but when we came around again, she took off. Not her fastest since we were isn the arena but prety fast. When she hadfinished I checked my stopwatch. It said 5.02 seconds. That was her fastest time. I decided I had ridden her enough, and put her away. I had to give her a bath and put her on the hot walker first tho. She was REALLY sweatty.

Riding my babies -- Jen, 16:48:26 08/07/01 Tue

I got up this morning at about 3 am and took Darkened Fury out for a run on the tack. After a mile he was still playing around so we Sprinted for almost 1/2 mile. He was just a little winded after so I turned him and walked a mile and a half till he was completely cooled. Then I took him to the barn and gave him a nice bath in a lnament type shampoo to help sooth his muscles. I put him in his stall so he could eat and decided to take ACE out. I've decided to teach her Barrels and Poles So I took her to the western arena and began working her on the cloverleaf pattern. I only stayed out there for about an hour because I don't want her to get tired of them. So I took her back to the barn and groomed her reall well. after that I decided to eat lunch and then took Bay Boy out brushed him up on western pleasure. He's been a little out of step lately. But he did great today.

exercising Irish Town -- kenna, 17:32:32 08/02/01 Thu

i tack up irish town and lead him out into my jumping arena. he looks at all the fences seeming to study them. i hop on and warm him up by walking trotting and cantering around the arena! i then take him over the hunter course that i had set up earlier, he beautifuly pops over the outside line, the oxer, the wall, the vertical line, the quarter round, but he seems to be a little scared of the gymnastics and so i take him over them until he gets it perfectly. by then hes werked up quite a sweat and so i cool him off take him in untack him and give him a bath. then i put him back in his stall!

Exercising my horses -- Kenna, 17:25:32 08/02/01 Thu

i saddle and bridle saints rosey glow and ake her out in the and arena to warm up we walk 3 laps, jog three laps, lope three laps, and then i decide to set up some barrels. At first i just take them at a slow lope until she alll loosened up and willing to bend for me. i let her walk for a little bit and then i take it at a full gallop bending around the barrels perfectly with a time of 19:53 seconds not bad for not bein ridden in a while. i then jus walk her around to cool off, untack her and give her a bath!

watching my babies fly -- sophie, 09:37:11 08/02/01 Thu

you can't help but think that your horse might be human or just that your half horse. That's what I though when Gold (Heart of Gold) trotted up to me with a big snort when I was watching him chase the birds. He came up as if to say get me outta here! So I let him out he danced on his heels... all the way back to the barn. I gave him a carrot and I walked with him over to the jumping arena. As soon as I let go he ripped around the arena like his tail was on fire!!!!!! He ran torwards the wall and literally flew over it the speak of the devil. He finished his course then decided well she's waiting for me.......... time to go.

It was really interesting today because when I went out to feed the horses their breakfast..... the door on Dark Victory's Stall was gone...... ok now I was worried because I had left Pizazz and Frenchie outside so as you know things could end up worse than they looked!!!!
So I found him trying to mount poor Pizazz... who is already bred to Optical Illusians (i emailed you about this Bridget). So she was real upset and Frenchie..... was well just being Frenchie. She was clawing at Vicki and he was screaming like hell....................... so I have to go get the vet now.

Buh bye!

Excersizing my horse -- C.C., 05:31:15 07/26/01 Thu

First I take out Elliptical Beauty, and warm her up, and then take her out over the cross country course I have set up, then I cool her down and put her away. i take out Chocaty, and do the same thing, except it was not cross country, I do the same thing with the rest of my horses, and by the time I'm done I'm very tired. All of the rides went well, but I have a feeling that I'll be so tired and sore tommorow that I won't be able to get up!

Riding Limited Jazz -- Bridget, 14:37:50 07/17/01 Tue

I see Jazz in the field as she lifts her head up, neighs and comes trotting to the gate to meet me. I open the gate and she comes out and follows me into the barn. I give her, her daily snack and she stands there paiently without any halter or anything. I grab a bridle and put it on cause I decided to go bareback. I hop on and out the barn we go. We walk up the long drive and into a field. Trotting along the fence line we hit the woods. Jazz gets excited as she sees that I just put up a new X-country course around Fantasy Acres. She auctomaticly moves to a collected canter and hit the 1st few jumps. going along now we jump the last jump (10jumps). Jazz finally breaks a sweat as we head back to the barn. Until Jazz sees a deer. Before i knew it I was flying with Jazz. She ran so hard and so fast to chase that deer until I slowed her down and turned to the barn. We galloped back and I hopped off and took off the bridle. Jazz walked out of the barn and ate the grass near the house I walked out and called her in. So she came troting along and into the barn for a nights supper! What a wonderful horse she was today!

Exercizing My horses -- Megan, 11:26:41 07/11/01 Wed

Well it's Wednesday and since I haven't worked my horses in a while I guess I will todayI'm going to start out with Ole Mans Dancer (Baby). We are going to practice barrels and poles today.I didn't put him in the show a couple of days ago because i wanted to run Race Against Time.Well we started out pretty good but then he got to where he wasn't paying attention to the barrels and I had to put blinkers on him to get him to focus he finally did and practice went good. Then we practiced Poles he did fairly well since this is our first practice in poles I didn't expect much but he did better than I thought he would so after we got done I took him home and unsaddled and bridled and put his halter back on and put him on the walker while I practiced Race Against Time.

Race Against Time (RAT) placed 5th in Barrels in Horse Gal's English show and I hope to place about 1st or 2nd next time. When got him out of his stall he was all excited and ready to go (he reminded me of a racehorse). After I saddled him and warmed him up we went to the practice pen and practiced for 30 min. He did pretty good I think the crowd at the show made him nervous and he just wasn't quite himself. After practice we went back to the barn and I unsaddled him and put him on the walker with Baby. While I worked Choco Taco Silk.

Choco Taco Silk or Choco thats what we call him around the barn, was anxious to go to the practice pen and I was afraid he might pul a muscle in warm up he was so excited. When we were warmed up we went to the pen and practiced jumping 2-3' jumps. When we got done with practice we had been over the jumps twice and had a total of 20 faults considering that it was hot and i was tired that was pretty good. When we were done and his breath was back I put the tack up and put her on the walker with Baby and RAT.

While I worked one of my new horses Seattle Sue or Sue as she's called around the barn. When I bought her she was an eventer and a Broodmare but I think she'll make a good racer she's bred for it her sire is Seattle Slew. So I took her to the 1/2 mile track and worked her she was curious as to what was going on and was anxious to learn so I breezed her for 2 furlongs and loped 2 then we worked on her stride she would really stretch out I think if I would have let her. The when we were done with strides I took her to the barn and put tack up and put her on the walker while I put Baby up.I put baby in his stall and opened the run and added fresh water and fed him some hay before dinner. Then I put RAT up I didn't open his run until I put his water and hay in his stall because he really llikes to be outside and will go straight out and not eat or drink. So when I was done with him I Choco up and checked on Sue she was alright so I put Choco up and fed his hay to him and opened his run and gave him fresh water. Then I put Sue up and waited until I fed her her feed to give her her hay or water because I didn't want her to get colic. Then I checked on Royal Blues (Blue), Chocolate Sox (Sox), and Mystical Creations (Misty) I fed them their hay and gave them fresh water. Then I fed all of them and opened Blue, Sox, Misty, and Sue's run doors and gave Sue her hay and fresh water.

Then I cleaned up the barn a lil and went to the cabin.

And that was my exciting day!!!!!
Oh yea please bid on RAT and Blue!!!!!!!!!Please

Let's go! I've taken out my sweet new Thouroughbred stallion. He's young, even tempered, and a lot of fun. He's all purpose, and a little headstrong. (He's four years old.)
He is the best! This will be my third ride on him. The first time he bucked me off. Next ride he reared up because I wouldn't let him turn a circle. My last ride we were approaching a water jump at a full gallop, but just as we got up to the jump, He slammed on the breaks so hard I became a member of the over the ears club, and right into the water! It was not that terrible, because it broke my fall, but it was freezing! He's getting much better though, so he'll be fine, and he won't send your horse into a fit, so don't worry. It'll be a good experience for him.

Anyone want to ride? -- C.C., 14:55:27 07/01/01 Sun

Hey, I'm going out for a trail ride. Does anybody want to go with me? I'm taking my horse Chocaty out, she's young and in training. If anybody has an older more responsible horse to keep her calm, then will you come with me? I'm trying to train her for cross country, so the trails will be an awsome training spot. I really want someone to ride with me in case I fall off again. She gets very skittish when we go out alone. Well let me know.

::Riding The Uprising:: -- Shayde, 01:46:20 06/29/01 Fri

The woman tacks up a beautiful bay warmblood stallion and leads him into a dressage arena. She rides him around the arena at a loose walk, and then a slow trot, and then a gentle canter. once he is loosened up she works on lead changes and does done circles, turning and figure of eights, going through the basics until she works on the Levante and Piaffe. She then goes through her routine and they both look beautifl, no wonder the horse is a world champion. She then untacks and she rides two smaller versions of her stallion, Derise and Lynsrise a colt and filly up for possible sale. They are lighter, but as talented as their father and really beautiful.

I took Ole Mans Dancer out of his stall and we went to the arena and practiced barrels. He did so good we ran in a 16.363 the fastest ever.It was so pretty. After we got done I unsaddled and put him on the hotwalker. While he was on th walker I took Royal Blues out and lunged him to stretch his legs some and he was a perfect gentleman.Than I put him on the walker with Ole Mans Dancer and took Race Against Time out and rode to the arena and worked on western pleasure. He picked up all of his leads and did everything perfect.when we got back I unsaddled him and took Ole Mans Dancer and Royal Blues off of the walker and put them in their stalls. And then i put Race Against Time on the walker and poured feed up and fed.And put stable sheets on because i didnt want their muscles to get cramped up with a chill.

Doc -- Mandi, 07:34:54 06/23/01 Sat

I just got done working Doc my POA stallion. POA's are awsome because they have such cool personalities. Today we took a drive down to the local ice cream store and everyone was attracted by him. He loved it, he was in heaven with all the attention. While I ate my ice cream cone he was taking turns with one of the kids licking the kids cone as well it was funny. Any way I have to go play with Julius now. Just letting you guys know that POA's are adorable.

Sables Dressage... -- Meaghan, 05:53:01 06/23/01 Sat

Sable and i were working in the arena on a little dressage test i got from The Menfelt Horse Trials it was only a novice test so it was pretty easy for us we started the test... we entered the ring at a nice slow collected trot stopped to salute the judges and turned to the right at a trot we then switched over into a canter while trotting on a diagonal in the test and did a figure 8 we had to then slow down to a walk and walk a circle after the circle we trotted an 8 meter circle then we had to do a collected canter slow back down to a trot stop salute the judges and the test was over...

Riden Bey NINJA -- Aliah, 04:50:42 06/21/01 Thu

*tacks Bey NINJA up and mounts up. She rides him along a trail at a walk and trot to loosen him up. When she feels he is warmed up enough she heads towards a ring where she set up a hunter course earlier for him. She shifts him into a canter and takes him around the course before dismounting and cooling him out. She then puts him into his stall where she gives him fresh water and feed.*

Sky's The Limit and Sidan De Ville -- Brandy, 07:35:38 06/05/01 Tue

They are both in a show tommarow so I am working them today. I practiced alot of jumps on Sky. She was frisky at first and bucked me off! I got back on and took her over the course again. After a while she settled down and we started to work on the flat work. Afterwards I gave her a bath and put her in her stall w/ a blanket on. Next I worked Sidan. Even though he is a young colt he is very well tempered. We worked on flat work and went on a short trail ride. After he was done I also gave him a bath and put him in his stall w/ a blanket on.

Riding Limited Jazz -- Bridget, 18:51:36 05/29/01 Tue

Limited Jazz is all saddled up and ready! We decide to hit some trails! We gallop down a long strech and around a corner were we race with some deer! slowing her down we trot up a steep hill as we stand up top Jazz neighs to see if anyone is around. Madly she tosses her head and wants to head back but we head to the woods and look for the jumps! Jazz did good with the jumps but got a little speedy near the end! Finally she is sweating so I cool her down at a walk and head home. When we arrive back to the barn I give her a cold bathe and feed her and give her a good nites rest!

Dashin' Sunset -- Diva, 17:36:22 05/26/01 Sat

I put a light weight exercise saddle on Dash's back and sinch the girth up tight. I climb into the saddle and walk through the gates onto the soft dirt track. I warm up on the outside for 15 mins. then canter Dash around the track once. Then I breeze her 1 mile and a quarter. She doesn't seem tired ay all, and when I reach the quarter mile pole and begin to slow her, but she doesn't want to stop. Relucantly, she does. Does anyone wanna race us for a mile? Indiana Jones' Practice & First Trail Ride -- Lexi, 17:50:48 05/07/01 Mon

I saddle up Indy in a Western saddle. Then bridle him.I lead Indy into the arena aand mount.I warm him up by jogging, then loping.I dismount to set up a barrel pattern. As I mount again,I walked him to the entrance of the arena, like a gate.I cue Indy to gallop. It was a perfect round except he knocked over 1 barrel turning too tight.I praised Indy by giving him more loose rein.
After 4 hours of giving him rest,I decided t take Indy on his 1st trail ride.I saddle and bridled Ind up again and rode him to one of the equestrian trails by the lake.We were about half way through the ride when Indy spooked and took off in a mad gallop!!!I got him back down too a trot and kept jogging till we got back to SOF.That was the most exciting trail ride I've ever been on!!!

Riding Nothin' But Trouble -- Lana, 18:39:19 05/02/01 Wed

I take Trouble out of his stall. I tie him up to eat his breakfast. I start brushing him at the neck and work my way down both sides. I slide my hand down his leg and say "Pick it up." He lifts his leg so I can clean it. I do this for all of his feet. I put his blanket on and make sure there are no bumps or rinkles. I set the saddle on his back lightly. I reach for the girth and make sure it is on the right hole. I cinch it up and make sure it is not to tight but tight enough so the saddle won't slip. I go and get his bridle from my tack box. I put his halter around his neck so he is still tied and he won't walk away. I put the bit in his mouth and make sure the straps are straight before continuing over his ears. I fix his forelock so it isn't inside his browband. I buckle the throught latch and take his halter off his neck. I walk him to the mounting block. Before I step on I make sure he is square under himself so I don't throw him off balance. Once he is square I step on. I walk him toward the start of the trail. We start up the trail and he gets spooked. I make him walk past whatever spooked him so he knows that it won't hurt him. After our long trail ride I turn him around and we canter all the way back. Once we are back I take off his bridle and put his halter back on. I take off his saddle and clean it. I put it back on its rack with the pad turned upside down so it will dry off. I rub Trouble down with a wet rag. I brush him once more. I check his feet to make sure he didn't get any rocks in them when we were on the trail. Once I do that I put him on the hot walker for 10 minutes. I take him off and put him back in his stall. I give him some cookies for being so good.

1st I Saddle and ride Merlin Pretty Boy my Arab Stallion
(Pretty)
Well 1st we head for the indoor dressage arena(cause it is too hott) We warm up a bit at a w/t then a collected canter! After W-up I work on Shoulder In's and Half Pass! Pretty Is not so happy because he is used to not working often so he throws a temper tandrum! I make him do his extented gaits and call it a day!
2nd I Take out Limited over to the Stadium Jumping Arena! (Limited) She is all spunky and ready to go! I do a w-up and head for the jumps! They range from 4-5'5" feet! I take the first one two fast and wasnt ready so the rails fell! Then to the second-fourth jump all jumped nicely and clean! As I approach the fifth something distracts her and she comes to a dead halt! (It was a rabbit) Luckily I was holding on good! I jump the last one and call it a day with Limited!

Shannon on Dutch -- Shannon, 14:32:19 04/23/01 Mon

I groom Dutch and tack her up. I mount and we trot to the arena. As I warm her up I look at all the jumps and decide how to approach them. Then I collect Dutch and she canters for the first X. She clears it. I head her for the 3'er oxar and she just barely misses the pole. I turn her for the triple bar as she jumps she rubs two bars and one falls to the ground. I head for the last jump and she clears it. There were six other jumps but I thought she jhad gotten enough excercise for the day so I called it a day.

Some barrels with Rodeo Master (appy stallion) and jumping with Jamakin' Me Crazy (morgan mare) -- Tara, 00:41:08 04/23/01 Mon

I saddle up Rodie and we go for a bit of a fun gallop to warm him up. after that, we do the barrel course and he does beautifully, making to the end in well under the time limit. Sadly enough, Rodie hasn't been training too hard so he's a bit unfit. I take him out.

Next up is Jamee (I call her that for short). She does a 5'7" 15-jump-course, clearing all jumps easily and perfectly positioned. She finishes just on the time limit, as she is a good steady horse.

I'm proud of both of them.

Telusive I hate to argue but..... -- Dixie, 17:09:36 04/22/01 Sun

Records can be broken, happens all the time. Besides, it's just a game. If somebody wants to say their horse ran a mile in a minute they can. I see your point, but records can be beaten. Racing wouldn't be racing if they couldn't.

As Future Referance -- Telusive, 21:27:25 04/21/01 Sat

Bold Forbes set a mile record with 1:35 1/5. A RECORD averagely a horse runs a mile in 1:50 younger horses in 2:00's are normal for allowence racers. Claimers are in 2:10's. So dont say he ran 1 mile in 1:20 or something, cause it cannot be done

Galaxy does dressage and driving with Chief Commander -- shadow, 12:44:31 04/21/01 Sat

I took Galaxy out to the outside arena since it is nice out. We started at a trot for about 10-15 mins to warm up. Then we worked on lead changes and galaxy needs a little more practice on lead changes. Then we worked on the spanish walk and he did great. and we continued for a little bit. After the dressage lessons. Jennifer brings Chief Commander in and we hooked him up to some driving riens and we hooked galaxy up to another pair of driving reins and had galaxy fallow Chief Commander. After that we decided to hook them up to a wagon and took them to a field to practic. Chief did a great job on showing galaxy how to drive. Now we can enter galaxy in some competative dring along with chief commander. A day well done for theses boys.

Limited Odds gets a drive -- Telusive, 07:05:43 04/21/01 Sat

I hitch Limit up to the hitch, the young stallion stands being well behaved. We ask for a walk, i say in a firm but easy tone: "walk" He walks like a pro. As we walk he prances and tries to move into a trot, but all i have to say is easy and the chestnut colt quiets down. After a few times around the arena calmly i ask for a trot. The young horse prances and dances some, but starts to calm down after a short while. In not too long he totally stops prancing and begins to trot long and fluid. After a little while of trotting i stop and back him, before unhitching and cooling the gleaming colt

The Prospector (2 y/o TB colt) gets a big workout. -- Tara, 22:11:06 04/20/01 Fri

the Prospector was jittery and suspicious at his new surroundings. I took him out onto the race track. He ran a mile in about 2:20, all you can expect from a young colt in in a new place. I was really proud of him.

Next I took him for a bit of lunge which he is EXCELLENT at. at the end he started to miss though becuase he got tired.

Graice ( 9 y/o TB mare) and Costosa (2 y/o andalusian filly) get worked at their best sports. -- Tara, 22:09:14 04/20/01 Fri

I started out with Graice, the least jittery of them all. I rode her into the dressage ring. We practiced a few diagonals, something she needs to work on, and concentrated on her rhythm and pace as she performed the arena. She worked really well.
Next I moved onto Costosa, my beautiful filly. I am trying to get a bit of self-training into her for in-hand jumping, to wean her out of halter. We started with some 1 foot jumps, and she did really well for only her third time. Then I decided to try her on 2 ft jumps. She didn't do so well so I decided to call it quits for the day.

Zippo Deluxe gets a new disciplen -- Telusive, 16:45:13 04/20/01 Fri

After much practice, i think Zippo is ready to work the barrels in public. I warm him up, with usual flexing, circles, all that. Then when i think he is ready i lope him around the barrels. Lone Star holds a clock. After 3 lopes, i try a run, The first barrel we knock but Zip pushes against it as we turn and it sways, but stays up. The second is a clean round turn, third is even better, running back, we cross under the line, Lone Star hits the clock, and screams with joy. A 14.607, Very high (and yes people, IS doable, Scamper ran a 15 without a bridle eh hum) I decide, one good time is enough and jump off the dark bay stallion. As we leave he nickers to all the mares, giving them a show by arching his delicate well muscled neck and prancing. Muscles ripple all over his body as he prances out of the arena

Delight's Mr. Ebony gets mad. -- Dixie, 12:22:58 04/19/01 Thu

Mister is a little lazy today. And he stepped on my finger while I was putting his bell boots on. When we mount up he tries to walk as slow as he can, but I ask for a trot. When we enter the arena Carrie, my Arab broodmare, and her new black filly are already in there. (One of the grooms forgot to put them up). Before Mister and I can get out without disturbing them, Carrie and the filly come to see what's going on. When the baby nibbles on Mister's foreleg, he rears up, barely missing the foal when he lands. Carrie gets protective and nips at his rump. He kicks out with a hind leg. Making sure the mare and foal are out of the way, I carefully back him, then take him out of the arena. We ride in the dressage arena instead.

Noble Monarch does some dressage. -- Dixie, 12:20:48 04/19/01 Thu

I take NM, bareback, out into the arena. (I'm not a dressage rider so I won't be really descriptive) He's a bit anxious, but not disobedient. We practice a simple dressage test which he glides through. Then we move on to another test. He's perfectly fluid up until the sitting trot on a diagonal, then he breaks into a canter, tail flagged, head thrown. When he tries to slow I keep him at the canter, bring him back to a walk only when he starts behaving again. We do the test again. This time he does much better. Then we cool off.

Charmer does some reining -- Dixie, 12:19:16 04/19/01 Thu

Charmer is attentive as I mount up. I take him around the rail a couple of times at all three basic gaits, then walk him to center and halt him. I ask for several spins, with a slight pause in between. First a 270, then a 180, a 360, a 90, and another 90. Right out of the last 90 I ask him for a canter. We canter around the arens then I turn him in towards the middle and ask for sliding stop. He performs one perfectly. The rest of the ride we just relax.

Miss Thang gets a ride -- Dixie, 12:17:55 04/19/01 Thu

I tack Miss T up and take her out to my barrels. She's a little edgy today, so I put a tie-down on her to keep her head under control. When we're warming up she behaves herself for the most part, only showing resistance when I ask for a canter on the left lead. When she's all warmed up we run the barrels once. she makes it in 25 seconds. One the second run she's a bit faster, but less agile and we knock down a barrel. On the third time we make it in 20 seconds. We cool down with a walk around the pasture.

Bounce (1 y/o Morgan Colt) does a halter course -- Tara, 00:36:10 04/19/01 Thu

Bounce tried living up to his name- he was really frisky and jumpy at the start, being only really young and in a new place, and wouldn't follow orders. But after about 1/2 an hour he settled right down and concentrated better than I would expect for someone his age. He has been alot calmer and more mature at home since I started working him away from home.

Riding Star Olis (Star) and working with Patrick(Pat) -- Brandy, 17:58:42 04/18/01 Wed

I took Star out and worked him in the arena, this was his first time out so he was pretty hyper and bucked. Once I got him worked then I worked more on leads and pleasure, he didn't do as well as I hoped but I give him credit cause this was his first time out in a while. Then I put him back and brushed him and worked with Pat. He was also frisky. We worked on jumping and he did better than I thought he would. Then I brushed him and put him back and let Star and Pat to eat in the pasture.

Carryin' The Boys Home (Tomboy) (3 y/o Quarab) jumps a course -- Dixie, 17:17:09 04/18/01 Wed

After I warm Tomboy up bareback, I take to an arena where I have four jumps set up. I take her around them to let her get a feel for them, then we jump the first. She knocks down a rail. On the second her stride is messed up, so she doesn't quite clear it well. The third she makes and the fourth she loses just one rail. I pat her neck. We try the course again. She makes all but the last without losing a rail. Then we cool down.

A Woman's Touch (Woman), Carryin' Rio On (Carrie), and Quincy's Dusty Lady (Dusty) get rides. -- Dixie, 16:08:23 04/18/01 Wed

I take Woman out first. I ride her completely bareback and tackless. Using words and leg pressure I ride her into the square arena. We start at a walk, she's nice and slow, she keeps her western pleasure look, head down, gait smooth. When I for a jog she picks up nicely, ever smooth, though she's had several foals. We trot for a bit. Then take it back down to a walk. She's foaled recently, so I don't do much more with her.
*
Next I get Carrie out. Carrie seems a bit :sore" still, so I don't ride her, but I take her out to my lunge pen and lunge her for a while.
*
Dusty is ready to go, the second I ride her towards the ring, she almost prances, though still at a walk. I let her speed up to a trot. She stop perfectly at the gate, then I open it and we go in. I take her around the ring at a walk, then a trot, then reverse and canter. Then we do it the opposite direction. We do some sepertines, and some nice circles. Then I cool her down.

Dun It Like A Man shows off -- Dixie, 15:45:59 04/18/01 Wed

There's a man here to look at Dun Boy to decide if he wants to breed to him. I take Dun Boy out, all tacked up into a nice big arena. First we run the barrels, making it in about 20 seconds. I explain to the man that's not warmed up, and that he cuts much better. Then Dun Boy does walk, trot, and canter in both directions. The man asks to see Dun boy cut. As soon as Dun Boy realizes he's going to get to work the cows his ears prick. He cuts three cows, perfect as usual. The man asks to cut with him once. Knowing that he is a good cutter, I let the man ride. He does well, and Dun Boy shows off some more. The man is very impressed.

A Sweet Dun Deal gets some practice -- Dixie, 15:15:47 04/18/01 Wed

Dun Deal's ears are pricked as soon as she sees her sire (GD) cutting in the next arena. She whinnies to me as I put GD out to pasture. I come back out to her and take her in for her usual training ride (she's three). I start to take her to the riding arena, and she doesn't resist, but I can tell she wants to cut. She's cut enough times to know how to do it, but she's not perfect. So I take her out with the cows and pick a nice little one. The cow's of medium difficulty, but she works it well, not missed more than a step and the cow doesn't get away, until we let it go. Her chestnut coat is barely damp with sweat so I let her go another run. Then one more then I cool her down.

Gone 'n Dun It works the cows -- Dixie, 15:03:15 04/18/01 Wed

After I had GD all tacked up (western of course), I took him out to the cow ring. We wade into the herd (mostly Hereford and Angus) and pick out a yearling Angus. The calf is perfect for exercise. It has one thing on it's mind: getting back to the herd. GD's ears are pricked forward and as soon as the calf starts moving he does to, slamming it into "full power". He's quick and agile. His head stays level with the calf's and he switches direction following the cow perfectly. Finally we let the calf go and pick another. He does just as well with it. After a few more, we cool down with a walk around the property.

Zippo Deluxe gets a ride -- Telusive, 13:08:05 04/17/01 Tue

Zippo Walks in, his head held low like a western horse.
I stop him, and flex his neck muscles by pulling his head to the left and right, but not hard. He walks around, then collects himself to jog. After a little jogging, i lope him. But first i tuck his shoulder. With all the practice of this Zip had, he tucks easy, and does a nice lope. His head never leaves proper place. Lots of training got him to stay like that. As we lope, he stumbles a little but picks back up. We switch directions. Walking he stays easy, and jogging is a little stiff. But he gets more fluid with time. Then i ask for a lope. One shake of the rein and he tucks his shoulder and gets fluid. He starts to extend his canter but i give him a Slight spur and sit back, he knows this as slow down. After a little loping, i spur him lightly at the girth and he stops. picking up my rein i back him, to make his hind end stronger. He backs flawlessly. As we cool off bareback. He nickers to the departing Shorty.

Short Odds and Bridget Hit The Jumps -- Bridget, 12:52:57 04/17/01 Tue

Short Odds and I trot up to the jumping arena where we see 9 challenging jumps ahead! I start off by a little warm up trotting around the jumps and then moving to a collective canter. Minutes go by and I bring him back down to a walk. As he cools down a bit I approach him to the 1st jump. He clears it nicely as I canter to the next 3'er He clears it again! But the third jump and Double Oxer awaits. Short Odds has never jumped that type of jump so I collect him and he knocks a pole down. I jumped him over one more jump and called it a day so I knew he would end very good. As we Exit Shorty Neighs because there is no one else riding right now! I Hope to see some horses and riders out practicing soon!!
