Yes indeed the AF monkeyed with just having one standard collar brass but it's so ingrained to us enlisted types to associate un-circled US with officers. Now its back to the old way. One more thing in 1994 they took the bottom rocker off the Master Sergeants stripes and moved up on top
so now they look like a Senior Master at first glance. Guess they wanted to put symbols to the Top Three grades.
