Subject: Vietnam War & COVID-19 virus

Gents,
Media is comparing numbers of casualties between the Vietnam War and Coronavirus COVID-19. The point as I understand their reported story is COVID-19 has reached a milestone. That's where the reports I've seen stop.

The real point is 58,193 were KIA or LOD in Vietnam (as you well know), and as of 4:35 PM 4/28/2020, COVID-19 death total for the United States is 58,947.

It took the Vietnam War 19 years to reach 58,193 war casualties. It took the Coronavirus exactly 60 days to surpass the number of names on The Wall.

I understand America wants to go back to work. I also know that VSPA are aged in the endangered species category. All of the media encourages those at risk to bunker down for a while. I think that info is good. I'm 75. Jackie Kays is still kicking at 87. What I intend to do is stay indoors with the woman I love, and not go roaming and shopping and restaurant-ing (is that a word), although I would like to. I plan to wait another 2-3 weeks--after--large numbers of citizens begin to work and do their parts to renew the America we all love. Then, if the stats continue new dead at over 2,000 daily (today, 2,479 additional were added), I will reconsider the risk but likely continue playing chicken-little and watch the numbers a little longer.

For our aging members, the virus can still be deadly. Each of us, when the time comes, will evaluate what's appropriate for self and significant other (if there are no neighbors with 50 miles--go for it. If you live NY City (ground zero), watch the numbers, use caution, and pop a flare before charging out.

Curious, I wonder how many "essential workers" have been working across the country all along? My son-in-law is one of them. If their numbers are in the hundreds of thousand (or a million), it would be informative to see the stats on how COVID-19 has impacted them.
