Subject: FINAL GUARDMOUNT FOR BRIAN C. THORNE, VSPA Life Member #872, Cam Ranh Bay 68-69

Brian Thorne stood his final Guardmount this morning, December 17, 2022. He was with his wife Laurie and their son, Adam, when he died. Brian was VSPA Life Member #872 and served in the 12th Security Police Squadron at Cam Ranh Bay Air Base, Vietnam in 1968-69.

Brian served as Vice President of the VSPA for two years where his jovial demeanor fostered the deep sense of brotherhood that we share. As Vice President, he conducted the field work and hotel inspections for our 2001 Reunion in Hampton, Virginia and at Langley AFB. Although Brian had consistent discomfort in one of his legs, he marched with the VSPA leadership at the head of our formation in the parade on Constitution Avenue in 2007 when we were in Washington, D.C for the 25th Anniversary of The Wall. He marched in pain, already scheduled for knee replacement surgery the following day because he absolutely refused to miss the parade that would honor our Air Policemen, Security Policemen and augmentees who did not survive the war in Vietnam and Thailand.

Brian and his wife Laurie were present for the formation of the VSPA Sisterhood in 2003. He washed The Wall with us during the 2019 reunion and continued to support our brotherhood and the VSPA Sisterhood for years after he left office. He attended his last reunion at Luke AFB in October of this year.

Please keep Laurie and Adam in your prayers. They have lost a husband and father while we have lost a devoted brother and friend.

Additional information and funeral arrangements are pending.
