Whenever I give my "spiel" at The Wall, I often talk about the Nurses and point out the Nurse's Monument. Here's some "gee whiz" info about it.

The Nurses have names. Yjey are Faith, Hope and Charity.
-- Faith is on the South side of the sculpture, holding her bible and praying. The initial design by Gloria Goodacre, had Faith holding a baby. That was too sensitive at the time, so the design was changed to remove the baby and replace it with a baby.

-- Hope is on the East side, looking to the sky, in hopes of seeing a badly needed medivac chopper.

-- Charity is on the North (front) side and is holding the wounded soldier, to provide comfort, in what might be his last moments. The soldier is larger than normal and that is intended to show the enormity of the situation.

I love our Nurses. If it hadn't been for the Nurses, The Wall would probably have many more names. For those who attended the rededication of The Wall, on its 25th Anniversary, during our 2007 Reunion, the most moving speech was given by former Vietnam Nurse, Edie Meeks. She overshadowed the dignitaries, like Colin Powell, Chuck Hagel, Jan Scruggs, et al. If you have a couple of minutes, go to You Tube and enter "Edie Meeks" in the search bar, to find the video of her speech. Warning: It is a tear jerker.
