This is very, very rich.....it really is like eating a piece of fudge. And if that's not bad enough it is in a short pie crust and topped with whipped cream. Serve in very small wedges.

CHOCOLATE FUDGE PIE

Use your favorite pie crust recipe (9 inch)
and form a high edge.

Bake only partially in a 400* oven (about 5 minutes)
Remove from oven and adjust oven to 350*

FILLING

2 squares unsweetened chocolate
1/2 c butter (1 stick)
4 eggs
1 1/3 c granulated sugar
1/3c light corn syrup
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
1 c chopped walnuts

Place the chocolate and the butter in the top of a small double boiler,
stir until completely melted. Remove from heat, set aside to cool slightly.

In a large bowl - beat the eggs lightly, then beat in the sugar and corn syrup, just to mix. Add the vanilla, salt and then the melted chocolate-butter mixture. Now stir in the nuts. (If you prefer, you can sprinkle the nuts on top of the pie.)

Pour mixture into partially baked pie shell.
Bake for 50 minutes. Do not bake longer, even if the filling appears soft. (The filling will puff up during baking and will settle down to a thinner layer that will crack while cooling. Refrigerate for several hours. Serve with whipped cream.
