Well, I've mislaid a birthday card with a money order in it for $100 that was a gift from my son. I couldn't-wouldn't COULDN"T have inadvertently thrown it out.. but I've checked my 'safe' places, a folio where I keep documents, and a carved Chinese wooden box where I store other important bits and pieces.. but no sign of it. So pleae send some magic my way that I find it. It's not just the money.. but that it was a gift for a special purpose.

That was a great story Tina.. I bet the lady was SO glad to have her money back. Reminded me of an incident with my friend Shirl. Shirl often gives me books and magazines she's finished with. One day she drove me home and we were sitting in her car talking when she handed me a couple of books. I flicked thru one and found a $50 note between the pages! I laughed.. and asked did she mean me mean to have the money too! She didnt. but was grateful I'd found it.. she'd put it there for 'something' then forgotten it.

We appear to be all over our bugs so I thought I'd take the time to catch up. It's been a good week over all, Piper did really well in her class, Joan said that she could see real progress and that I'd been working with her. Soon we'll have to have an enforced three week break as all my girls are coming into season (Shilo is in, Piper is close and Megan will undoubtedly follow them), I will continue to work from home though. Piper met a really rude dog at training - same dog Sam took exception to the week before (a Dachshound [sp?]) - anyway the thing is rude because Pip never takes exception to any other dog there but this thing "said" something rude to her as we skirted the paddock and I could see it all over in her body language it was just like "Mum, did you HEAR what he said to me??!!!!". I say well done to the dogs owner for taking it to basic obedience but rather him than me, LOL. I think it is very hard for some people to grasp the concept that little dogs can be really rude (as rude as any other breed that is) and they should deal with it, good for him for trying to get a handle on it.

Moving on, we went for a picnic/BBQ dinner last night (afternoon) with friends at the place in the pic I posted below of the beach. Andrew and Daniel went kayaking and our friends had a go too, it was a lovely day, the food was wonderful (it always is cooked over driftwood and eaten outdoors!) and we all came home very relaxed. :) While we were there I met a lovely lady visiting form the UK who told me that you couldn't swim in the ocean over there, it was too brown and not safe, but she has been enjoying swimming here while on holiday. Her neice was in the water with one of her two dogs (apparently a pit bull cross) and on the beach with the lady I was talking to was Hazel, Am. Staffie bull terrier. A lovely girl who had been ill used by her former owner who attempted to fight her and was less than kind so Hazel was not an effusive dog but her manners were beyond reproach (even to the very cocky Cocker Spaniel who came running up to get in her face). She is not quite the water baby her foster brother was though BUT when he went in with a stick she followed to prove her point (and apparently she always wins the stick off him, LOL).

What else... oh Daniel has started a project on 'Dangerous Creatures' (because I know he'll enjoy it and I hope to expand his writing skills while he's working on it). As part of this we went to the Auckland Zoo on Friday and watched the lions being fed, it was awesome! They put out elephant dung for them to roll in and taste (it's all part of an overall behaviour thing to keep the lions in good mental shape) and they fed them veal ribs which they had not had before but made short work of.

It's been a lovely week and today is a lovely laid back Sunday... I hope you have all enjoyed the same kind of week!

I thought I'd best let you know I'm still alive, battling the start of something that involves a sore throat and headache (common cold probably, there's a lot of stuff that goes around here at the change of seasons). I've been having some problems posting to Voy for some reason for a couple of days there and then to top it off my email is bouncing back as well so I figure that the powers that be are telling me it's time to back off a bit. That's not altogether a bad thing as I'm kind of busy with the dogs right now (just recently joined a training and obedience club and have Piper in training for agility and am trying to work with each of them a little every day), have a very nearly human teenager "with attitude" to try and educate (homeschool) a husband whose working very long hours to help out a relative etc.... you all know the score when life seems to settle left right and centre and you're standing in the middle yelling "Hey - I'm just one person... give me a break" LOL. But I am loving the dog training thing and am proud of the fact that Piper was deemed fit to skip basics and head straight into pre agility :) and do feel that she's doing well (her Mum is maybe not quite up there yet but we have a pretty long way to go so I guess I'll get the hang of it eventually. :)

Anyway - if I'm absent it's not cause I don't love you all and value your company, just have a lot to get through but will keep you posted as time allows.

Ellie thanks for the recipe below... I'm off to have a better look at it now (although I have to admit that it's going to be grilled cheese on toast for us tonight LOL).

Bye for now - off to feed the dogs and melt cheese onto hamburger buns and pretend it's just like a top class restaurant meal. ;-)

This is a no egg yolks, sugar, salt, butter for those who wanted a 'healthy' nibble.
Pumpkin Fruit Slice.
I cup of cooked pumpkin
1 rounded cup of plain wholemeal flour
Half teaspoon of cream of tartar
Half teaspoon baking soda
2/3 cup non fat cottage cheese
2/3 cup each of chopped raisins and sultanas
2/3 cup of crushed pineapple, unsweetened, fresh or tinned
2 egg whites. 1/4 cup of low fat milk
Mix fruit with pumpkin. Put flour and rising agents in a bowl add the cottage cheese, then the fruit/pumpkin mix. then the beaten egg whites and milk (may need a little more milk) Spread in greased slab tin and bake in moderate oven for around 30minutes at 175C - 350 F.

Diane, is the Rescue Remedy for animals a different concoction to that for people? I still have most of the bottle I got for Feller after his abcess.Feel a little fragile tonight, so thought I might take some myself, but when I checked the label it said 'For Animal Use Only" so didnt take anyway, didnt want to poison myself LOL! But if it didnt poison my cat, don't know why it would poison me. What do you think?

Andrew has decided to go all passionate over sushi (which I am going to have a go at making once I get the little roller thingies) anyone have any tips? Also Green Ginger Sauce - anyone have any clues on that one? I know I've seen it somewhere but can't find it and it's the one he mentioned. Also Thai food - I've done Lisa's Thai chicken and pumpkin (and love it) but I'd like to play around with Thai cooking a little more so any good ideas would be welcome (like basic ingredients and concepts that I can build on for example). I have a nice little stand of lemon grass growing right now which I beleive is pretty essential to Thai.

Hi, just wanted to let you know it was my birthday today and I felt kind of weepy as I wouldnt be seeing any of my kids today.Two live in Sydney,(i'm in Melbourne) and my daughter and her husband are off early tomorrow morning for a holiday in Tas, so were busy packing etc..so it was like no-one to celebrate my birthday with. Well, in this mornings mail I got a card from second son in Sydney with a money order for $100 in it! That was overwhelmed one, then ovrwhelmed two, happned late this afternoon when a bloke arrived at my door with a HUGE bunch of flowers from my brother and his wife in Canada! They are so gorgeous, all yellow and white, white rosebuds, yellow daisies, and beautiful white flower that looks like an orchid but I think they are lilies! Ended up I had phone calls during the time from my other three kids too!
Just thought I'd share this precious thing with you all.

Fish is so good for you and can be low calorie too if prepared that way. I just don't serve it often enough - partly because I don't like to freeze it, so it's not always here for me. I go over to the coast to buy it and like to cook it the same day. I got some today, Red Snapper and I'm going to make it tonight. It's a recipe from an old Sicilian fisherman's wife that uses sour cream, mayonaise and grated parmesan for a topping and it's baked. It's very simple but I can't remember the time and temperature. I'll post after I fix it and give a better recipe, time and temp.

Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, smacksmacksmack, uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, where is the whipped cream hon?????????????????????

I must say it is one of the most chocolately, sinful, rich, decadent desserts I have had in ages. Since I don't really like regular pie crusts I made a homeade graham cracker crust and it was wonderful with the chocolate. Thanks so much for the recipe. I will try the others later on.

Sadly I have come to that stage where the sweets do bad things to me.Just had tests the other day-blood pressure sky high and chl.sky high.Blood pressure 198 over 88 and they told me that is really bad!
Margaret sent me a picture of her beautiful horse..she was on it but face away so I can't tell you if she was a beaut of not,but the horse sure is!

So Friday, the day after Feller went and had his abcess drained it was TERRIBLY HOT, 38C.. well over a 100 for those that use Farenheit- and high humidity as well. Poor boy.He was SO Sick. he just lay comatose on the couch all day with the fan blowing over him.High temp (the cat) I had to spoon feed him water and get the pills and the rescue remedy into him.. Yesterday temp still up(but weather much cooler, thank all Saints) Still he wouldnt get up, but progressed to lapping an egg/milk mixture off a spoon.
This morning temp was normal. he got up sat on the balcony in the sun for an hour, ate some sardines, and used the litter tray.That was a HUGE relief.. he hadnt urinated for almost 3 days! Was imaging another trip back to the vet with him with a raging urinary infection!

If anyone is doing anything special for Valentines Day? It's the 13th here and this is the day that I WISH I had stock in long stemmed red roses! LOL!!! Why is it that they are seen to traditionally represent love I wonder? Isn't any floral tribute a sign of love and affection and show that the giver has the loved one in mind while picking it out? I think I got my "Valentines boquet" already this year actually. We were out somewhere for the day and I spotted a whole bank of clover I wanted to raid (to dry) so I got Andrew and Daniel picking too. Daniel, being a smart kid, watched me and was picking the flower heads and stashing them in pockets and whatever else was avaliable (T shirt fronts work great for imprompture herb gathering :) then I glanced over at Andrew. Here he was carfully picking each little clover blossom stem and all and holding them like a little posy! OMG, it was so funny but SO sweet too!! We laughed all the way home and when I came to sort them out for drying each one that I came across that still had the stem attached bought a smile to my lips. :) A silly story I know but I felt like sharing and as for tomorrow night... I have no idea but I thought it might be fun to cook together, open a bottle of wine and just try to remember that being married to your best friend is one of the nicer things in life. :)

Thanks to you all for your sweet thoughts and Ihope everyone has a happy V's day. Did take Feller to the vet this morning.It was an abcess. Gabby (the vet) drained it and gave me some antibio tabs for him. I also bought a bottle of Rescue remedy. Anyone else use that for their pets?
I paid the bill,and still had a little left for a Valentines treat for me. Bought a coffee scroll and a bag of liquorice allsorts!

Today is my in-law's anniversary. The girls bought them a cute little bird tealight burner with cucumber/melon tealights and I made up a basket of some bath salts, massage oil, two soaps and a lotion bar. Yes, all in cucumber melon as it's my MIL's favorite scent. I made a couple of lotion bars last week and while they were very nice (smelled like chocolate covered cherries) I wanted them to spread easier. I tweaked the recipe a little and came up with one I like much better. Thought I'd pass it along.

1.5 oz beeswax
1 oz cocoa butter (deodorized is better as the chocolate smell interferes with most scents)
1.5 oz shea butter
2 oz sweet almond oil or grapeseed oil
1/4 tsp vitamin E oil
EO or fragrance oil of choice

Melt beeswax, cocoa butter, shea butter, oil and vit. E in a double boiler or mock double boiler. While this is melting and mixing, prepare molds. I picked up some trial size deodorant and tossed out the contents and cleaned the containers thoroughly (take them all the way apart). I've also used some of my own old deodorant containers, but thought that probably wasn't appropriate to give as a gift *G*. Anyway, reassemble the containers and roll them all the way down. I've also used small tupperware type containers to make a regular bar. When everything is melted, swirl the pan to mix and add essential oils or fragrance oils. The oils will cause part of the mixture to solidify so swirl the pan again to mix and melt. When you have the scent you want pour into molds and let harden. The small trial size containers are perfect for carrying in your purse or car and this new recipe leaves your skin feeling silky but not sticky. If you can't find deodorized cocoa butter I suggest using something that mixes well with chocolate. Cherry, orange, strawberry and mint are nice but I've found some people are sensitive to the cherry, strawberry and mint. Peach is NOT nice!

Saw this on tv news last night. A radio station promoted a Valentines Day 'what will you do for love' thing. They selected several young couples who were about to, or thinking of becoming engaged..and took them to an indoor swimming pool. Everyone had to be dressed nicely as for a date ( all the guys were in suits and ties!) then the gals had to stand at one end of the pool, and the guys had to dive in (fully dressed in their nice suits!) and swim to their lady loves. In each lane of the pool was a small black box, and the blokes had to dive down as they passed and pick up the box. One box contained an absolutely beautiful dazzling diamond engagement ring(don't know what the other boxes had in them, but I hope the rest at least got something for their wet efforts!)
It looked like a lot of fun. I didnt care about the ring, but I was envying them being in the POOL.. it was so HOT here yesterday!
