Every herb in associated with a planetary and an elemental energies, In the case of Lavender it’s Mercury (intelligence, study, self-improvement, over coming addictions) and Air (communication, intellect, eloquence, divination, freedom and wisdom) the idea is that you burn that herb with best invokes the energies you wish to tap.

From a purely medical view, its best used in combination with other herbs, basically it’s a mild sedative…for headaches for example I’d combine it with lemon balm, it’s been used to relieve stress and in the middle ages was used as a remedy for hysteria. Mix it with valerian for cramp and spasms. One of my favorite herbs for sure. ;-)
