Didn't really want to clip Barney-my min.poodle because the weather is so cold but his hair was getting too hard to manage-he will have to wear his little coat outdoors for the next few weeks..as usual Tadpole the chich/Jack russel mix rolled on the floor and tried all kinds of antics for 2 hours while I groomed Barney..it's so funny when he does his jealous act.Brandi my big german shep/border collie mix
used to ge nervouse when she saw me grooming but now she knows I am not killing her buddy.A german vet who lives in our area has a pure bred "appenseller"apparently a german breed that is identical in every way to my mix breed Brandi.One day while walking in the summer time ther was a group of German people eating at a sidewalk cafe and all I could make out was "appenseller..hmm" I felt like saying no Appenseller..german shep mix.Her colors are absolutely beautiful and the German vet bought me a magazine all about appensellers and Brandi fulfills every requirement except I know her real breed.All three are rescue dogs who bring me so much happiness and good companionship.I am so thankful for them.Just had to share my love for them with you!Hugs all..Tina

It's brand new - in the box! How about a two piece "picnic set" from India? It's a carved tubular wood presentation with brass legs and a brass knife in one end and a brass fork in the other. NO? OK, how about several pieces of Hershey's collectibles, trays, tins, tiles, candy molds, ceramic Hershey kiss? NO? Then what about several fairies and colored perfume bottles? Lots of books, LP record albums from the 60's 70's even 80's. Still NO? Well then, some things for camping - Coleman lantern, tarps, floaties for little kids, old pots and pans and Melmac dishes. You won't be able to pass this up.....a BIG box full of Christmas lights (many never opened) and 8 boxes of round glass ornaments. There are too many decorations from Christmas, Halloween and Easter to list, but I'm sure you'll find something you like.......
Sigh...guess who's having a garage sale??
I'm not buying any more stuff, I'm not buying anymore stuff, I'm not buying anymore stuff........

I'm trying to come up with some creative ideas for Jessie's Valentine's Day party at school. She's in Kindergarten and there are only nine kids in the class. It's scheduled to start at 1:30 and end at about 2:55. That's quite a bit of time to keep nine kids interested and entertained. We need several games, a craft or two and a snack. We're decorating heart shaped cookies and cupcakes as a catch-all craft/snack and I'm making up 'Valentine's Day bingo cards' with those little conversation hearts as the markers. I also found a cute craft using a construction paper heart to make a mouse. Thought about doing a pin the tail on cupid kind of thing...Knowing little kids there's still going to be quite a bit of time left. We thought maybe do a story time somewhere in there. Any ideas? Diane, you're always good for a few. Marlene? I bet you've done this before. Anyone? Inexpensive is a must - we're only allotted $20 and the other mom has already spent $50.

Hi all,

I have a darling boyfriend for 9 years, he is a peach, but he is pudge city...

I Am actually really worried becasue he went to the dr for a physical and they found his coholesterol very high 285, his sugar was very elevated and his blood pressure very high. he could become a diabetic, we are testing for that next month.

he is a big guy, has a tummy on him, and smokes way to much. the dr told him he is headed for a heart attack.
he is going to stop smoking soon, I Am on him like a dope sniffing dog.

he has been doing very good and I Am happy for him, but he slips up once in awhile with his diet. he bagged all his pepsi's, he used to have 2 a day, no more sugar in his coffee, no more chips and salsa, and chocolate ben and jerry's ice creme. he is doing all of this on his own, without me having to nag to much, excpet the smoking isn't going well.

he is a big snacker, so I got fruit for him, veggies, and this and that. the poor guy is hungry, he misses his snacks. any idea's on what snack type things he can have that are healthy? I could only find saltless pretzels, and he was not thrilled.

I like my junk to, but I eat really healthy, lots of fruit and veggies, so my levels are good... but I could stand to loose to.

I feel bad because he had no idea he was eating un healthy, he was horrified to hear his results. I have always teased him, and told him that I like to keep him on the pudgy side
so other ladies don't find him appealing,but I didn't want to "kill" him, my god, I feel horrible, he is headed for serious trouble. I buy the food and he eats it. i only cook 2 days a week for him, but now I am doing it every day to make sure he eats good. I have been making nice low fat meals for him. last night I said, your on your own tonight, and he made taquitos, and brachetta, not low fat i told him. he did cut out the cheese and sour cremem though.

if anyone has info on low cal cooking and snacks I would love to know about it.
no more doghnuts, cookies, chips, and fried food for us..... we love our junk food, but no more! anyone want mac and cheese? we have so much junk in the house and I need to get rid of all of it.

All schools-stores closed today-a whopper of a snowstorm!
Whiteout conditions..winds keep blowing snow over roads as fast as plows can plow it out.Someone please tell me they have flowers in the garden..so I know there really is a spring and summer..I forget..this winter has been a tad too much!
Has anyone some good non fattening salad dressing recipies?

3/4 cup SR flour
4 TBlspoons cocoa
45gm butter or marg
1/3 cup caster sugar
5 TBSpoons of milk
1 tsp of vanilla essence
SAUCE
1/3 cup of brown sugar
2 TBSpoons of cocoa
1 1/4 cups boiling water

Sift flour and cocoa into bowl. Cut butter into small pieces and mix into sifted ingreds. with sugar. Stir in milk and vanilla essence. Turn mixture into greased bowl and spread evenly.
Mix brown sugar, cocoa and water together until smooth then pour over the pudding mixture.
Bake in amoderate oven (180 C) for 35 minutes.

Sprinkle top with caster sugar and decorate with swirls of whipped cream, chocolate shavings and glace cherries.

That's all there is to it and it is lovely. I usually use normal flour and 1 1/2 tsp of baking powder and ordinary sugar works fine too and I generally forgo the topping - it's so good what's the point? :) **Fun to make with kids too** Just don't let them eat all the mix first!!!

One thing to be careful of is that many sites do not like link backs, it comprimises their bandwidth which means that their site can't be viewed by others after a certain amount of "hits" in a certain time frame (people clicking on it which also includes everytime someone clicks on an image linked from their site directly so far as I understand it) so just be aware of that and choose your GIF animation file sites, like the one Faye found, where they seem okay with people linking back and.... Have FUN!!!

So nice to get a prompt reply from you ladies!I won't try the fancy stuff..Instructions are great but I have no printer to print them off and the memory is too bad to remember how to post the cute charactors.
It is freezing cold here in Nova Scotia today and even my brain feels a bit frozen so I have nothing brilliant to tell you.I usually really enjoy winter but this cold is a bit too much even for me.Its been 8 years since I heard cyotes howl..they are mostly deep in the woods but they must be getting hungry,,heard some howl last night.The snow must have all their food buried.On the other hand it is virtually unheard of to see a robin in Feb.but I had one in my yard yesterday..it is either too old to have flown south or it foolishly thought spring was here.Hope it survives.

I have been quite down with all that has been happening, but thanks to you crazy gang I am now much better. 275 mls of cream
350 grms of dark chocolate
4 egg yolks
i tablespoon of brandy
1 tablespoon of sherry.
Whip cream till it holds a peak.
Break chocolate and melt gently over boling water.Let it just melt completely, but gently, it it goes hard..Blamoh- no good. When the choc is in liquid state, put in mixer and beat hard on top speed till it goes cool and creamy
. When the chocolate is ready add the whipped cream to it and beat, then when that has amalgamated beat the 4 egg yolks into it. As it thickens beat in the brandy and sherry
This will make enough to fill 12 ramekin dishes.
If not to be eaten that day refrigerate.
THis is suberbly rich as served in the best French restaurants!

Feeling very "full of myself" learning to post pictures (thank you Diane and Tim too) and reading Ellie's questions about forwarding pictures in email.....got me to wondering.
For those of you that "know your way around a computer" - how did you learn? Did you take classes, learn at work, or just by mucking around (like me) and trying desperately to learn from internet buddies?
Sometimes, I think I want to go take some classes.....but I don't really want to learn the "important" stuff - like "Word". Something that I could actually use on a job! I just want to do the tricks!
Guess I am like a young person that wants to be a tennis star with out learning the rudimentary skills of the game.

A deep, rich, smooth, sinfully chocolately chocolate pudding or pie. That is one of Russ's favorites, but he is tired of the texture of the one I have [Chocolate Silk pie has lots of whipping air bubbles in the texture]. I have tried to do one on my own but was hot happy with the results.

Okay - the messages are a wee tad jumbled cause "they who shall remain annonymous" (see above ;) partied too hard and I had to request a rebuild for the board (thanks to Voy for being so prompt with it!) so if there is something that you are looking for it may have moved a bit and if it has disappeared I apologize (although it all appears to still be there. Gee Diane.. I'm not very computer smart.. I use them that's all, just basic stuff. I don't know about outlook express. All I know is that I run with Optus (have Optus cable net) and that I use Google as my search engine. Haven't tried this one myself, but it sounds gorgeous, for a festive dinner..or just as a special treat etc.
Lemon Cream.
2 egg whites
275 mls of cream
Juice of 3 lemons
tablespoon of sugar.
Put everything into mixer and beat at high speed..In around 45 seconds you should have a mound of sharp,fresh tasting, light as feather cream.Put into parfait glasses- or refigerate if not serving straight away.Serve with wafer biscuits.. or any other type of fancy biccy would do I guess!

It's for a body lotion. I used coconut oil (solid at room temperature) and find that while you don't have to refridgerate this particular lotion you do have to heat it up and remix before using. I think next time I'll try something other than coconut, perhaps sweet almond. As you can guess, it's not the creamy consistency of the store bought stuff. It's rather oily but gets absorbed very quickly.

3/4 cup cold pressed oil
1/2 ounce beeswax
1 cup lukewarm distilled water
Essential oils

Place oil and beeswax in the top of a double boiler (or rig one up). Heat slowly until beeswax melts. Remove from heat and allow to cool for several minutes. Place water into a blender and turn on high. Add oil mixture through the top hole (you know, the thing you can unscrew) a little at a time while continuing to mix on high. You should see it begin to thicken after a minute or so. Add essential oils and blend one more time.

Hi all, just wanted to drop in really quickly and say that I'll be back either later tonight or (more likely) tomorrow. Daniel and I spent the day out and it was HOT!!! Really hot, really nice, I drove down the moterway a little too fast, with the wind blowing my hair into a total mess (who cares?), the stereo cranked up, the sun beating down, the smell of sea, ocean, beach lunging in the window making me want to take deep gulps of it. :) I could feel all stress flowing away, it was wonderfully theraputic! Now I'm stuffed, tired, totaled, had it, beat :) ......I feel like there's been a general melt down effect after an afternoon spent out and about in the sun and heat. I'm off to generate food for dogs and people, I have some nice pics to share when I can get back here. :)

Hmmmm. Are you-all wondering if I have nothing more to do than sit here and write all day? Well, it's kind of a free time for me just now.Anyway.. I love opshops! Think they're called thrift shops in the States, op shops here in Aus..dunno about NZ! Well, decided to change the look of my bed-- (no husband/partner so don't have to pander to any male tastes! LOL! I've had on my bed a cover in a rainbowof colors, yellow, orange, red, green, etc., also a multi colored afghan rug.. love afghans.. kind of collect them.
But Gee.. for some reason I wanted to go all girly ?? so I went to our great litle Sal army opshop this morning, got an as new cover in pretty candy pink, plus an afghan rug done in a delicate light wool, in pale blue, pink, green,lemon and white.. Total cost for both..$6 !! and a whole new look to my bed!

Been having fun this morning..Oh,God..up at 4am! My cats wanted out. Do I sleep again?NO! Anyway, seeing I'm pretty new here I've been enjoying myself reading thru the archives on this site, some great recipes, some great gardening tips..but alas I have no garden! Living in a second floor aparment.. surrounded by the most BEWDIFUL concrete car park.. all I can have is some indoor plants.
Anyway, a recipe.. very humble.. actually came from a book called The Paupers Cook Book, by Jocasta Innes.. Love it! It's great for winter dinners, as long as you like the ingredients, and there are only 4!
Potatoes, Onions, bacon, and white sauce.
Get a large casserole dish, or cauldron! depending on how many you have to feed.
Slice up potatoes into medium sort of slices (note the accuracy here!) ditto onions, chop your bacon, uncooked.
In the cauldron lay alternate layers of potato, bacon and onion, make white sauce, enough to liberally coat all the layers, pour over, season with salt/pepper if used. Cook slowly and tenderly in the oven till the potatoes feel 'done" Can be be served on its own or with a green vegie- or 2.. Very filling and warming.

As usual, this time of the year, it is very cold and dry (in this part of California). Also, the heater (forced air) is on part of the time. Neither my husband or I like it hot in the house (but he borders on ridiculous!) and visitors often complain they're cold.
Neither of us like the heater on at night...but would you believe we keep it set on 58* for.....the dog.
Anyway, I am feeling so "dried out" - my skin, my throat and nasal passages, my eyes.
I have thought about trying a humidifier just in the bedroom but I worry about the moisture. Having lived in a foggy beach town much of my life, I am well aware of moisture damage and mildew. But it sure feels good on your skin!
If you have used one, do they leave moisture on the furniture surfaces, walls, floors? Are they noisy?
