Well, Diane (I hope no-one else gets bored with this!) I loved 'making up'stories ever since I was a kid. My first published piece was at 16 in a Church newspaper! No way did my first story I sent out get accepted!! In fact.. funny story coming up- I'd sent out quite a few and got the dreaded rejection slip..So one day this letter came from some place I'd sent a story to. I was in a grumpy/dspondent mood that day.. just threw the letter unopened on the table.
My son who was about 15 asked me wasnt I going to open it..
I said 'Why? It's just another rejection." I actually didnt open if for 2 days.. to find..LA LA! I'd won second prize in a story competition.. and there was a cheque for $50! So, for you, or anyone at all who's interesred in writing, be brave.. get your things together and SEND.
I can reiterate too much how helpful it is to join a creative writing group (neighbourhood/Communityhouses/ often run them.I've got so much help and inspiration from the people in my groups. Happy to tell you anything more you'd like to know!
Ellie.
