With new pots you usually have to put the holes in yourself so I put them on the side instead of the bottom. It depends how I feel how far up the side I put them. I then put gravel in the bottom to about 1/2 to 1 inch deep.

With a hanging basket, I line them with a bin bag and then put holes round the side about 1/3 to 1/2 way up the sides.

Give plenty of water, it must be really soaked. The excess will run out but will leave a resevoir in the bottom.

Even when it is hot here, the late 80s, I only water every 2 to 3 days.
