Swede can be subsituted by turnup.

A swede is round with a dark hard skin, the inside is very hard to cut as well, but goes very well with carrots.

When people didn't have the money for any meat, they made it without and it is then called "Blind Scouse".

With Scouse, anything goes, as long as the water is boiled away so that you can stand a spoon up in it.
