Subject: The differences between Cable and DSL...
In reply to: Marlene 's message, "Question about cable hook-up..." on 19:00:29 07/02/01 Mon

Cable is run off of the same type of line that you get your cable TV through.

DSL is run with CAT5 lines and an ethernet connection.

The difference between the two is that Cable can be shared by everyone in your area. This can be your block, street, couple of blocks, or an entire town (depending on the size of your town.) DSL is a dedicated line to your house. This is why DSL is better. The more people in your area that are on one line (cable) the more bandwidth gets eaten up and the slower everyone's connections become. With DSL you get your own line, so you don't have to worry about that.

In Ohio it is about $40 a month ultd access for DSL and Cable. I got lucky. In my apartment complex the residents share a T1 with the businesses in the building, so when I'm on after work they aren't and when they are on, Im at work at my T1 there (Im a little spoiled ;) ).

You can get Cable Marlene, but it will have to be with the people that offered your cable, so if you were unhappy with your service before... But there is a light... Chad's mother was talking to the network admin at the company she works for and he said that he had his internet through his satellite provider. I don't know a THING about it so you may want to check into it! He said it is just as fast as DSL...
