I would not forbid a child to read *anything*....as long as they can handle it (as you said) emotionally and intellectually.
I say this, knowing that it *may* cause you problems at some point in time.....but in the "grand scheme" of things, a broad base of interest and knowledge is always a good thing. Especially when coupled with discussion by a parent who sees these new ideas from a more experienced perspective.
But, be prepared to have her seek out things that are not so "classical" and that you might object to.
