I haven't been around horses enough to see any of these behaviours, nor have I seen a dog in a like state (thank God!) and, as I pointed out below, not in our zoo here either due to the well thought out, large enclosures and the many hours that go into consideing new and interesting activities for the animals. I have seen this in birds though. They will feather pluck due to stress and once they start it is difficult to stop them. :( I hate seeing the big parrots confined in cages - they are meant to soar, not sit on a perch all day for humans to goggle at!

Thanks for sharing the info with us Margaret - you really know horses well! BTW - I LOVE your Tumbleweed tales. :) There's one *stress free* pony ;-) - not so sure about his owners stress levels though given some of his antics!!
