They wear the same in the winter but kilts only get worn on special occasions anyway, like weddings and formal dances. I think they keep warm by drinking lotsa whisky! :-) (Or you might have heard of the tartan army, who are a bunch of plonkers who wear kilts & football shirts to european & world cup matches - I don't pay much attention to them, I hate football)

In braveheart, the facepaint thing was one of the things the movie was criticised for. It was supposed to be war paint (blue to match the Blue background in our flag, the Saltire cross [aka StAndrews cross]). This was one of the MANY historically incorrect details - face paints were not worn during that period in Scotland, just like the battle of Stirling bridge was fought over a bridge not in the middle of a field.
