"Ew. What are you doing?" Kande wrinkles her nose as her sister tries to take a bite out of the brick.

"Can't be too careful these days." KS shakes the brick, then holds it to her ear.

"What are you-"

"SSSHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" KS glares at the mayor, who actually takes a step back. KS listens to the brick some more, then sets it gently on the floor.

"Seriously, KS, what are you doing?" The mayor takes out her fine handbook; surely, this must be some sort of violation that can fund the indoor-outdoor pool the mayor suddenly wants.

"I'm thinking this brick is some sort of message." KS sits back and nods wisely.

"Of course it's some sort of message! Didn't you see the note, you ninny?" Kande grabs the brick and shows the note to KS. "Why don't you READ it?"

KS sneers at kande. "Oh, like you know anything about sabotage and intrigue. One doesn't merely READ a note attached to a brick. One senses it and takes in the full experience in order to assess the level of danger."

"One does what now?" Kande is getting confused. She motions for Bubba to pour her another diet root beer. He scowls, spits in a glass, then fills it with root beer and slides it down the bar. Kande takes a big swig, then wipes her lip with her sleeve. "Bubba, this tastes a little off. Why don't you bring up a new keg from the basement?"

Bubba, who HATES the basement because it has spiders and other icky, crawly thing, tries to mime an excuse. "I don't know what you're trying to say. Quit making excuses and go get that fresh keg!" Kande opens the door to the basement. "And don't be turning on the lights - you don't need to be wasting electricity for such things. I know you can see in the dark."

Bubba, who most definitely canNOT see in the dark, stumbles down the steps. He trips and falls down the last half-dozen, landing in a heap on a pile of moldy blankets. Just as he puts his hand on the flashlight he's hidden down there for just such occasions, he hears a crash and is hit in the head with a brick. He stumbles, barely remaining conscious. He grabs the flashlight and turns it on. Pointing it at the brick, he reads "Assassin o' Shipperville" on the note.

Uh-oh. Two in one day? This can't be good.

"Bubba! What's all that racket?" kande screeches down the stairs. "If you've broken anything, it's coming out of your paycheck!"
